A fire at Jacob Zimmerer’s planing mill on East Passaic avenue started by a backfire from a gasoline engine destroyed the mill and caused about 6000 in losses. Firefighters saved a large lumber pile valued near 20000 stored in an adjacent building, while the owner, alone in the mill, was singed trying to fight the flames before help arrived.

Farmer Falls in Well in Brookdale Tragedy
George H. Haines a 57 year old Brookdale truck farmer was found dead in a well on his property Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say drowning appears accidental as he suffered stomach trouble and diary spells. A native of England he lived in Brookdale 27 years leaving a wife and seven children. Funeral services were held at the house with interment at Mt Hebron Cemetery.
