Local residents attend church services and lectures while visitors arrive for gatherings. Notable events include a Girl's Basketball win, organ recitals at Grace Church to aid the building fund, community dances, rummage sale plans, and council meetings.
The Nutley Friday Afternoon Club held its annual meeting at Mrs. William J. Kinsley’s Prospect Street home. Officers for the coming year are President Mrs. Albert B. Meredith Vice President Mrs. John Howlings Secretary Mrs. Louis F. Rhoades Treasurer Mrs. Horatio W. St. John. The president named Mrs. Kinsley literary committee chair and Mrs. Alfred F. Howe membership chair. The next meeting will be April 2 at Mrs. Rhoades’ Prospect Street home with “Guest Afternoon.”
On Sunday Pastor Rev. William Stuart preaches at 11 a.m. on Will Not Let Thee Go and at 7.45 p.m. on Settled On Their Lees. Sunday School begins 9.45 a.m. Sons and Daughters of the King meet 7.15 p.m. Prayer Meeting Wednesday 8 p.m. Junior Christian Endeavor 3.30 p.m.
The selection of a bank site for Nutley remains perplexing with suggestions on Franklin avenue Elm street Chestnut street and Passaic avenue. Officials say a decision will come in a few days and the post office area or Town Hall vicinity is favored by some. Plans for the new structure are in preparation as the bank’s strong growth prompts a suitable home.
Charles Searle of Franklin Avenue was treated for a virulent blood poisoning in his hand at Paterson General Hospital. Dr Langdon performed two operations on Wednesday to save his fingers, with a final procedure on Thursday. Doctors report the operation was successful and he rests easy, expected to stay several weeks.
A Knights of Pythias district meeting is set at Crystal Lodge in Dittig Hall on Tuesday night the 23rd. Grand Chancellor Henry A. Henrichs and other dignitaries will attend with Benevolent Lodge Passaic members. The local Knights will host a royal banquet for the visitors.
On Sunday Bible School at 9 45 a m. Preaching by the pastor Rev G A Hul bert at 11 a m Young Peoples Society of Christian Service meets at 7 p m Evening service at 745 o clock preaching by the pastor Mid week service Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock.
Voters backed incumbents George A. Hilk and Arthur Stager in Nutley school board race. Horatio W. St. John ran independently with broad cross-group support. Balloting began after an effort to dispense with financial statements, and turnout was high with 692 votes cast. The $25,000 maintenance appropriation passed and the new board will meet in April.
The Kempton Council Royal Arcanum will meet Monday evening the 22nd at Masonic Hall with Grand Treasurer McKeever of Rutherford visiting. The degree team will perform an initiatory service and Howelings will present entertainment. Earlier, on Thursday the 18th, the Belleville Seth Boyden Council saw two initiates join the order.
The Central alleys tournament halted Tuesday night when the fire alarm sounded during the second game forcing an evacuation. Yantacan Engine Co. defeated West Nutley Hose Co. in one game, leaving standings unchanged. The next meeting will review unbowled games and final records.
The Nutley Improvement Society met at the Town Hall Auditorium for its yearly gathering. They reviewed past work including station improvements, tree planting on Avondale road, and anti-dumping efforts. Mrs Henry M Whitfield resigned as treasurer with thanks given. new officers were elected and committees formed to preserve elm trees and address mosquito nuisance.
The Yantacaw Engine Co held a reception and dance at Town Hall Auditorium on Wednesday night. Firemen and friends enjoyed a well attended event with St Patrick's day decor and flags. Visiting firemen from Morristown Paterson Passaic Belleville Bloomfield Garfield Hackensack Clifton Lodi and Newark joined in uniform.
