Republican Senators Reach Partial Porto Rican Accord

In Washington on March 15 Republican senators in caucus reached a partial agreement on Porto Rican legislation. The House bill for a $2,000,000 appropriation will be passed immediately, a civil government for the island will be enacted soon, and the tariff bill will be delayed while a seven senator committee seeks a revenue compromise acceptable to the group. Joseph A. Crawford, chief engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad, completed a partial survey for the Pennsylvania to Buffalo connecting railroad. The proposed line would join a point on the Philadelphia and Erie system in northwestern Pennsylvania to Buffalo. Crawford reported his findings to Samuel Rea, fourth vice president and president of the new line.
