Nutley residents welcome visitors from nearby cities with social rounds and church events. Bridget Jackson a domestic helped by ex councilman P. J. Young was badly hurt Sunday night at Centre and Miller streets while alighting from a moving trolley. The conductor stopped the car and she was found unconscious, treated by Dr. Jackson and sent to St Marys Hospital Passaic. Hospital reports say she has a scalp wound and minor bruises and is recovering.
The Woman's Auxiliary of Grace Episcopal Church elected officers at its annual meeting at the Parish House on Highfield Lane. President is Mrs. R.J.M. Cease, Vice-President Mrs. Lyman Nichols, Secretary-Treasurer Mrs. Henry Gledhill, Delegates Mrs. L. F. Falin and Mrs. W. White, and Mrs. J. B. Hawley. A Lent series of Tuesday meetings will be held at the Parish House with all parish ladies invited.
Peter Garrahrank of Brookdale, Bloomfield, arrived in Natley Monday after overestimating his capacity. He fell from his buggy at Chestnut street and Passaic avenue. Gilman took him to the lockup. He slept until 7, faced Recorder Party, and paid a $5 fine for drunkenness. His face was cut and his buggy shafts broken as Queeman aided his return home.
William J. Kinsley writes to Chief Stager praising the Nutley Fire Department for saving his residence from burning embers blown to the roof by high winds. He encloses a $25 check. the chief acknowledges receipt and the gift will be given to a department fund at the next Fire Committee meeting.
A bread box was stolen Wednesday morning from Mrs. William Deen’s storefront on Passaic avenue. The box was later found broken open in nearby woods. It is the second such theft in three weeks. Three Italians linked to local robberies were seen in the area that morning.
The Nutley Board of Education Finance Committee reports a proposed budget of 25000 for the coming year, up 10000 from last year’s revision. It funds repairs 1500, manual training 1000, bond redemption 2000, and current expenses 20500 amid a 10 percent pupil growth and rising teacher salaries. Election for three three year seats set, with Clements Hill and Stager terms expiring. Voters will also decide assembly member ballots.
Saturday morning a chimney fire at C A Steinmeyer residence on Franklin avenue was extinguished with about 100 dollars in damage. A false alarm followed Sunday from a non Nut ley box. Wednesday a Franklin Hotel cellar fire on Elm street caused likely 100 dollars in loss due to chemical use by firefighters.
The Friday Afternoon Club met at Mrs. Donald MacMillan’s Colonial terrace home on February 26 to discuss Men in the Hall of Fame. Papers by Mrs. Woodman and Mrs. MacMillan explored the formation of the nation and slavery questions with others on national policy since Reconstruction. The group will meet again next Friday the 12th at Mrs. Broadbent’s Church street home to continue the same topic.

Dr H W Heywood operates as a dentist at 277 Broadway in the Brucatayay Chamber Building, New York. The note lists his address and professional title for contact or listing purposes.
The Colonel, a forceful speaker and longtime publican, spent his later years on a Texas ranch. He supported Civil War veterans, sent Memorial Day flowers to graves, and was a high ranking Free Mason. He leaves a widow and daughter Mrs G B Philhower of this town. Funeral at son-in-law Dr G B Philhower’s residence. date to be announced.
On Wednesday evening March 10 Henry E. Duncan will give a Lesten organ recital at Grace Church assisted by Mrs Annie Price Strahan soprano. Duncan has long stood prominently in New York music circles. Strahan is a leading New York soloist and teacher, pupil of the late Emly Winant. A high class program is planned.
The High School girls basketball team extended their win streak with another victory. They defeated Ridge High School in a persistent, season-long run and will travel to South Orange for a rematch against that town’s girls team.
