Debate at Kempton Council on Wealth vs Knowledge

Kempton Council members held a Monday night discussion on whether knowledge is more desirable than wealth with Mr. Harry Taylor leading and participants including Samuel Silverburg W St John W Kirkpatrick P A Prior T C King T B Ritchie W H Parry Llewellyn E Pratt and others. A second debate is planned for May 2. On March 13 Jia Vernon Bouvier Jr will deliver a lecture on The Ascent of Mr Bile noting his ascent last year during a European trip.

Eastern representative sails for Europe to sell pipe cutting device

Mr. Frederick F. Rewe of Maple Place, eastern representative of a firm making an ingenious pipe cutting and manipulating device, sailed for Europe on Thursday to introduce the machine there. He plans to visit England Scotland France Germany Switzerland Belgium Spain and Italy before returning.

Board of Education Hears Plan to Extend Park School

At a Tuesday night meeting in the High School building the Board discussed extending Park School to handle rising pupil numbers. President Philbower reported two courageous diseases in the Italian section and ordered two weeks of excluding children from that area to prevent spread. The Building Committee expects Town Hall completion within two weeks as the Superintendent notes attendance trends with 814 as peak enrollment and 101 off roll.

Nutley Board of Education Election Set for March 21

Nutley voters will elect three trustees on March 21. Three incumbents Henry W. Goodrich Richard W. Booth and Frank T. Shenard retire. Notices of intent must be posted ten days prior. Budget talks include a new building in the eastern section or an addition to Park School. A larger appropriation is anticipated due to higher salaries and operating costs.

Avondale Hose Company from Nutley visited Morristown Ny on a Wednesday evening led by Captain Weaseler. They were welcomed at the station and presented with two buckskin mementos showing their horses Tom and Jerry and a Dark Town Fire apparatus, followed by a course dinner at the Mansion House before returning to Nutley after the 11.20 train.

Death of Nutley Theatrical Figure Harry Read at 29

Mr Harry Read son of Mr and Mrs Henry Read of Him place died at his parents home after illness. He was 29 and known in Nutley for theater work and had recently been in Washington DC and en route to the South. He was a member of Theatrical Benefit Association and Knights of Honor New York. Funeral held at home with Knights delegation present. Body cremated next day at Fresh Pond Long Island.

St Marys Lyceum hosted Colonial clubs from Newark in senior and junior games. Seniors ended 20 4 at halftime and 4 11 at halftime with Lyceum triumphing by one point 14 to 13. Juniors saw Colonial lead at half 7 5 and Lyceum finish 13 to 14. Officials included Weiss Sharpley Kudgers Lamb. Next Thursday Lyceum to face Newark Y M C A.

Stephen Ball 79, Longtime Kingsland Paper Maker

Stephen Ball of Kingsland Street aged 79 died last Saturday after a long illness. A native of England he came to this country nearly fifty years ago and worked with the J. & KR. Kingsland paper firm as an expert paper maker. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at his residence with Rev Elbert Clement officiating. Pallbearers were John Howe, Charles W Barker, P J Cummins, Robert P Travis, Mark Reynolds and William H Lambert.
