Commissioner Cook objects to immediate action on a row F abatement and urges deferral for mayoral consultation. The mayor agrees to lay the matter over a week as commissioners vote on local hiring and Walsh act provisions amid questions about street car service and Essex Street flood blame shifting to the county.
A flour sample bought at a local grocery is sent to City Hospital Newark for laboratory analysis. The inquiry notes the sample was forwarded by Hauttenloch and mentions the family has not had physician contact recently.
The Chestnut Street Woman's Club met yesterday to discuss electing Mrs. Arthur B. Proal to the local Board of Education. They will not canvass door to door but will rely on publicity and highlight that local mothers favor her and that the former board member made an excellent record.
The local W C T U seeks aid from the State Anti Saloon League to close town saloons by securing a public vote. A meeting at Mrs A R Taylor’s Hillside avenue home will host several speakers from the league next month with date to be announced. Mrs Lacy Sloat described work at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Kearny and Mrs Henry J Condit spoke on Prayer.
Tony Vitallo, an unnaturalized foreigner from Belleville near Nutley, was arrested by Bloomfield Game Warden Fred J. Hall for possessing a single barreled shotgun. He appeared before Justice James M. Post and was fined $20 with the gun confiscated.
Miss Ella Florence Booth daughter of Mrs Joseph Pfoh of Rutan place and August Wines son of Recorder Gustav C Wines of Belleville were married Wednesday night at the bride’s home. Rev Chester J Hoyt officiated with Ruth Hoburn as attendant and Philip Pfoh as best man. The gown featured white crepe de chine and net veil with orange blossoms. A reception followed for about sixty five guests. the couple will reside in Harrison.
Misa Vicerita Ricco of Passaic Avenue and William Kane of Franklin Street Harrison wed Wednesday in a ceremony conducted by Recorder Post at his home. Attending were Miss Annie M. Zizzi of Nutley and John Becker of Harrison.
Anton Schramenk, an Austrian immigrant, was sentenced to one year in jail after taunting four American soldiers and resisting arrest. He admitted prior sedition remarks but claimed to be a migrant worker, later spitting at the police before being restrained and ordered to kiss the flag.
The district appeal board has stopped draft case work for one week to rest. Readouts from Nutley Belleville and First Essex show cases decided include Edward Axtell Belleville and Irving Haring Nutley classified under various draft II B III A and IV A categories with dependents and parental claims.

Doubleday, Page publishes Another Book by lMcFee with Nutley scenes. The author, known for Casuals of the Sea, spent a year in Nutley at Arthur Elder’s home. Aliens moves from England to an American edition by a New York publisher. McFee, now a British transport engineer, provides a Port Said preface.
The government extended the war risk insurance deadline from February 12 to April 12 for those in service on or before October 15. New service entrants have 120 days from joining to obtain insurance. The State Council of National Defense and Red Cross relief efforts promote enrollment with free advice at Nutley Town Hall each Saturday afternoon with Mrs. Carroll Diamond assisting.

Miss Louise Chandler hosts a bridge club. hostess Mrs. Fred Seymour wins prize. Mrs. Royal Dickinson of Metuchen returns from visiting her mother. Mrs. John M. Peters of Goodnight Texas is due to visit her parents on Passaic Avenue. Mrs. Stosbien Wick and daughter Frank Dusenberry of Anges Avenue spend days with relatives.
A local post office substation at Parvin's Drug Store has been discontinued with efforts noted to relocate nearer the corner as possible. The report references plans to adjust postal service access for residents in the area.
Four new War Savings Societies were formed this week in Nutley bringing total to eight. The Limit War Savings Society of Nutley includes ten or more members to raise 1/50 of the war savings quota per member. Thomas J. O’Neil is chairman. Henry T. Lefferts led with $75.48 in sales, James Ferrara and others followed. The Woman’s Club members contributed about $144 this week and $33 prior, with about 75 members buying stamps.
The Comfort Kit Unit received several gifts this week including two pair wristlers from Mrs. E. M. Cone, one muller from Mrs. F. A. Dunham, and a $1 contribution from Miss A. J. Bickers.
