The Patriotic Fund reports a near miss of the $3 000 monthly goal after two weeks of delays and slow pledge card return. Subscriptions rose from 684 to 1 156, totaling about 1 172.61 a month, with May cash receipts of 6 277.13. The committee headed by Albert E Howe will press interviews and follow up to reach the target.
Circle Five of the Ladies Aid will hold a Lawn Fete at Mrs Albert Howe's home 244 Prospect Street this afternoon from 3 to 6 30 with children's entertainment ice cream lemonade and candy for sale and a cafeteria supper plus a concert in the evening.
Nutley High School will graduate twenty two students on Thursday night. The program includes orchestra, addresses, songs, and a pageant “Shall Men Be Free” by Park School eighth graders. Graduates pursue college, business, or military service, with many continuing studies at various institutions.
A wartime notice highlights one ton of garbage containing glycerine for shells and fatty acid for soap, plus fertilizer, hog feed, and other munition materials. It urges housewives to separate these items from ordinary refuse so they can be reused for war effort and warns against contaminated trash.

Hearst papers were offered at Franklin Avenue station this week but no formal sale stands were set up.
