Nutley public schools to close on the 22d. Visiting guests include Archibald Shaw of New York and Miss Helen Hoyt of Norwalk. Bishop Lines to preach at Grace Church. Whit Sunday music planned. Local real estate notes and lunch counter ads appear amid community notices and upcoming lectures.
A trolley car derailed near Centre street and Washington avenue on Tuesday night. A Newark party returning from the Girls' Friendly Society convention in Paterson sustained injuries. Miss Clara Bose suffered severe bruises and was sent home by coach. Jacob Stick was hurt in the side and taken home by police ambulance. Officials cited spread rails and high speed as causes.
The West Nutley Country Club euchre event at Memorial Day, hosted by the Emanon Tennis Club, yielded prizes for Miss King Mrs Wellman Mr Bei Miss Lavarick Mrs H D Williams Mr Wellman dirs Douglas Mrs Bernard Mrs F Morrat Mr Dayton Sears and others. A supper and dancing followed with a cake walk winning Mrs W P Hoyt and Mr Clarence Lide.
Citizens gathered in Nutley to discuss establishing a local national bank. A meeting will be held next Tuesday evening to perfect details including stock alterations and to set up a savings department vaults and storage for jewelry and valuables.
Adjourned session sees council reject high bids for Franklin Avenue projects amid talk of readvertising to save up to 45 percent. Town Engineer says bids are high and Centre Street work to be re advertised. bids for related streets included. Fire Chief Harry B. Stager and Town Recorder Jas. M. Post appointed for terms beginning June 1.
The Nutley Board of Education held an executive session with routine items disclosed later. The superintendent reported higher attendance this month, noted teacher absences, and recorded a $50.78 donation from a Nui ley Dramatic Club performance for the public library.
A sunny Memorial Day in Nutley featured the Boys Naval Brigade of the Methodist Church and brief sermons by Revs. Wil liste Stuart and B M Garton at the cemeteries. Park diamond hosted Wanderers of Mework vs Wabley. Nutley won 12 to 10 in the morning and the return game swung to the visitors. Outdoor sports dominated as the season opened with golf lawn tennis and croquet. The Reformed Church announces Rev Wai Stuart to preach at 11 am on The Vine and Miniature on Wheels. Sunday School Bible Class starts at 9:45 am with prayer meeting on Wednesday at 3 pm.
St Pauls Congregational Church lists Rev B A Pearce of Woica Seminary preaching at 11 am and 9 45 am Sunday school sessions. Young Peoples Meeting noted with mid week gathering on Wednesday at 8 pm.
