Police Chaos Delays Chase In Nutley Saloon Incident

Patrolman Patroimean Wilford Stager pursued a suspect in Fast Nutley Tuesday but the chase stalled after a tele phone call for help gave no location. Peter Lewandoski of Franklin avenue later admitted he phoned to eject a man from his saloon. A second call led Sergeant Jameson to Lewandoski’s place where an intoxicated German was arrested and later released.

Firemen Honor Dead Comrade Kierstead in Nutley Funeral

Nutley Exempt Firemen Association and Yantacaw Chemical Engine Co. members led the funeral procession for Lester Kierstead to Mt. Hebron Cemetery. Six pallbearers from Yantacan Company and Franklin Building and Loan directors attended. Rev. Nelson officiated. Kierstead, a builder born in Wisconsin, moved to Nutley forty eight years ago and left a wife Eva Day and daughter Vera. sister Nora died two years ago. He served as township committee chairman and Nutley council member.

Declaration Served in Condit Pettersen Case

Lars J. Pettersen filed suit against Rev. Henry J. Condit and a declaration was served Thursday under direction of J. Harry Hull and Barrett firm. Edward F. Schneider’s declaration not yet received. Schneider may face deadline next Saturday to file.

Newark man arraigned on theft and disorderly conduct charges

A Newark man identifying as John Smith from Livingston street was arraigned before Recorder Page on stealing $6 from Alice Owens of Nutley. Held on $300 bail for the Grand Jury on theft and another $300 as a witness against the disorderly woman. Smith was turned over by Belleville Chief Flynn to Nutley police and found to have eighty cents.

Water Question Surfaces At Nutley Town Council Meeting

At a council session Councilman Carr cited a letter from the Adirondacks claiming Nutley faces a potential suit as a co defendant with Montclair Water Company. Attorney Hull warned of possible state water control if the state wins. The meeting also dealt with street grade changes, ordinances, park site review, and a budget meeting date. The water meter issues showed many were under or over charged and tampering occurred. Francis T. Stager was proposed as Water Clerk but the motion failed before a second vote.
