Nutley residents share summer plans with families at Lake Hopatcong and Watch Hill. The Town Council schedules its regular meeting for the 10th. News of visitors from Baltimore Worcester Philadelphia and Chicago and local sales and promotions follow. Fire alarm chaos and a proposed rapid transit idea also appear amid Fourth of July festivities and social events.
The late William McMulay died Friday and funeral services were conducted Sunday at his son in law B C Brown’s home on Franklin Avenue. The Masonic order rites were performed with a delegation from Lafayette Lodge Brooklyn in attendance. Interment was held Monday at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
The Nutley Bank reached its first anniversary with 530 accounts opened and a volume of business far exceeding promoter expectations. A condensed statement in the bank’s regular advertisement speaks for itself.
Nutley defeated Newark All Stars 7 to 2 at Park Oval in a forenoon tilt on a damp Fourth of July. Spinning pitched for the visitors, Hawkins injured his hand and retired from behind the bat. Joiner replaced him and performed creditably. Nutley breaks away with five runs in the second inning and adds two more in the fifth to secure the win.
In Newark afternoon action Dolma B B C scored early with eleven runs but Nutley A C rallied for a 15 to 5 victory. Frank Jameson pitched well and Frank Bishop at shortstop contributed steady defense as Nutley’s bats exploded. Attendance was large at Park Oval with a lively crowd and a postgame gathering.

The East Hulley and West Nutley clubs met with West Nutley prevailing 48 to 10 10. Paul Smith of Centre Street fell and dislocated his shoulder. He was attended by a physician and returned home.
The Nutley Baby Show at Hillside Pleasure Park drew about four thousand spectators. A Nutley baby, child of Mrs. D L Coeyman of Chestnut Street, won the hive ribbon in the beauty class. Mrs. Robert Morton won for handsomely decorated baby carriages, while Mrs. D W Serena received a prize for carriage decorating. A prize in the colored baby contest went to Mrs. Clara Green of Passaic Avenue.
William Dean of Passaic Avenue took an unusual vacation route two weeks ago. He bought a twenty foot gasoline boat and sailed from Amesbury Massachusetts toward New York, stopping at sights by daylight. He reached Nutley on Wednesday evening July 3, after traversing New York and Newark bays and the Passaic River to Avon Dale Bridge.
