A town committee discussed honoring fighters with plans to form subgroups, assess costs and maintenance, and report back. Richard W. was named for perpetuity and Mayor Diebitech presented the plan in Assemblyman Bostock’s presence.
Fourteen year old Eleanor Toy daughter of Mr and Mrs Edgar Toy was detained at the parental home in Newark at her father’s request after a hiking trip. She said she preferred the country and woods and wished to live there, and her father questioned keeping her at home.
William B. Warner, aged 63, died Wednesday at his home at 2 Willow Place after years of illness. Survived by his wife and daughter Miss Cora T. Warner, burial set for this morning at Methodist Cemetery pending services. earlier court cases noted in report.
Lieutenant Sigurd Hersloff of Edgewood avenue has been discharged and rests in Baltimore for several days. James Lee of Erie place, formerly stationed at Jackson South Carolina, also received honorable discharge. Eddie Nugent of Franklin avenue Sidney La Nour recently discharged. H Morton Moore of Prospect street received no letter from his unit while in Germany and may reach the United States around January 20. First Lieutenant Rudolph Schmidt of Camp Upice visited local residents during the war work.
The Nutley Patriotic Fund, Inc. reports a treasury shortfall with 7,119.61 on hand as the United War Work drive payments lag. Directors plan to collect arrears by January 1, 1918 and cancel further pledges if funds stay insufficient, with a possible memorial plan for returning soldiers.
