Payments flow into the Patriotic Fund this week, enabling The Sun to publish the first list of honor discharges in the next issue. The committee seeks full payments so the roster is complete when printed.
The Friday Afternoon Club marked its fifteenth birthday with a February celebration attended by members from Arizona Ohio Montclair Jersey City and Newark. Mrs Albert F Jackson hosted a Valentine themed event featuring a fifteen candle cake and letters from unavailable members. Activities included a knitting souveniring and a program of nostalgic talks and travelogues led by club officers and guest speakers.
A committee led by R. W. Booth seeks public support for a memorial high school. About fifty attended a Park School meeting. another session is set for Friday to boost turnout. They discussed a $200,000 plan with a tax impact near 87 dollars annually once interest and sinking fund charges are included. The group asserts a new high school is needed within two years regardless of memorial status.
The Rifle Club announced a local range match with the Verona Battalion. A team of the battalion’s best marksmen is being formed and those who shoot over ninety are encouraged to join. members averaging about eighty five are asked to attend practice for selection.
A sale of cake and food will be held at St Church on March 1 from 2 to 5 in the afternoon. The event is organized under the auspices of the teachers and the Sunday School.
A dense church notice lists Rev Harold W Schenck and Rev Douglas Matthews sermons on Prohibition and inter church movements. Activities include Sunday services, union services, junior endeavors, Boy Scouts meetings, choir rehearsals, and a minstrel show with dates across February.
A union gathering of four Protestant churches will be held tomorrow night at St Pauls Church. Rev Dangies Matthews of Grace Church will preach on Are the American People Behind Prohibition. He has spoken widely in the eastern United States about the movement.
Nutley High School will host the Belleville High basketball team for the return game this afternoon at 2. Belleville enters the matchup seeking a win after an earlier loss while Nutley hopes to improve its record and momentum.
Final arrangements set for a minstrel show by Grace Church Young Men's Bible Class. Cast includes interlocutor Robert G Ralph and a list of named participants.
Members of Nutley Battalion of Infantry Company C, about fifty five, gathered at St Pauls Church for their second annual dinner. Three men back from overseas shared yarns while Harry D. Finn chaired. Captain Applegate and Lieut Lovell attended. Frank Hartshorne, Harold Fisher, and Alfred Smalley recounted Metz and Chateau Thierry experiences, shrapnel near misses, and American war efforts. The evening closed with singing and Old Lang Syne.
An innoc cent Church will inaugurate culture classes for women in the gymnasium. Mrs. wife of Milton avenue will be Seeley. She came from Corvallis and is ranked as professor of ture at Emerson Cege. She studied at Wellesly and attended Columbia University summer school. Classes for women are set for morning hours and girls in the afternoon.
The Executive Committee announces the discontinued voluntary collection effort. Boxes on streets will be removed and news notices cease to avoid inconvenience to residents and reduce paid collection costs.
Deputy Robert Davis Jr of the Internal Revenue will be in Nutley from March 3 to 12 to help residents file income tax. He will hold sessions at the post office and meet citizens paying their taxes.
Mrs Lulu Halliday wife of William Halliday formerly of Lake street Newark died Tuesday after a weeklong influenza illness at her home on Mt Prospect avenue Newark The funeral was held at the house and burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery including her Newark origins as Miss Lulu Haas prior to marriage

Sergt Alvin Reynolds of Bloomfield Avenue entertained Sergt Thomas Conboy of New York at the home of Reynolds’ brother in law John Roth. Both served in the 7th Engineers and were wounded. They later discovered each other in a Fox Hill hospital, sharing surprise and joy. They praised Americans Australians and Canadians as the fiercest Allied troops, while criticizing the English and French for seeming tired of the war.
In a Durant, Durant place letter to his parents Fairlee Dabney writes he has received official notice that while he was absent in the hospital his sector was cited for valiant services during the July drive and he had been awarded the Croix de Guerre.
Private LeRoy Smith of the USth Med Det reports from LaRochere France dated January 25 about being wounded in the leg by a machine gun bullet and spending a month in the hospital. He recalls a fierce Argonne action where four days’ objective assault took fifty seven minutes under heavy fire. Other veterans listed include A Simpson Camp Dix T Simpson Camp Holabi Archibald W Davis and Melvin Neveus. several men discharged or home on leave from Camp Meade Amatol and Norfolk.

The regular monthly meeting at secretary Howard Wolfers’s Brookfield Avenue home approved plans for the third annual dance on March 15. Chairman Wolfers, assisted by Edren, led the organizing effort.
The Yountakah Country Club intends to remodel the Larkin house and ready the facility as its club by July a'. An entirely new club plan was abandoned and governors were asked to proceed with the work. A building committee led by Henry W. Goodrich, with Hen Herd and Mayor Diebitsch, will oversee costs estimated at 17 000 to 25 000. Planned changes include exterior stucco, a fifty foot lounge, updated plumbing and heating, a new stairway, enlarged dining area, cafe and kitchens, and new second floor women’s rooms. A brush fire destroyed an old barn on the club’s course, burning three horses and equipment.
Hose No. One of Avondale to retire its legacy team Jo and Jim after fifteen years of service. Surviving member Jim remains intelligent though feeble and slow, with plans to replace him via a new authorization approved by Commissioner Cook.
Weltgeret died at the home of Emmy Mytorge K Speer on Woodland Avenue Thursday afternoon at age eighty five. She was once an agent of Passaic. Surviving are sons William J Speer and John Speer. Harold W Schneck will conduct funeral. burial at Church Cemetery under W R Stirratt.
