The town faces ongoing changes as George LaMonte & Son and nearby mills such as Waldrich Bleachery adjust operations. The stern section of town hosts the bern plant and bleachery activities, with production including feather novelties and dyeing work.
Town officials and local fraternal and civic groups plan a mass meeting at Town Hall to protest Germany's treatment of Belgium. Major Putnam and committee leaders organize the event with church choirs and a collection to cover expenses. Resolutions will urge President Wilson to protest further. Rev. Douglas Matthews will preside.
Nutley Lodge of Masons elected Emil C Miller as worshipful master at its annual officers’ election. Walter F Ormsbee retired as leader. new officers include William C Stavik as senior warden and Richard B Dean as junior warden.
The Nutley Improvement Society president calls members to a mass meeting Tuesday night at Town Hall to protest the enslavement of the Belgians. Time constraints prevented mailing notices, so the secretary asked The Sun to publish the call.
A program of musical numbers will be performed at Grace Church in celebration of Christmas Eve. Works include Handel We Three Kings of Orient Are, Tschaikowski Minuet, Neidlinger The Birthday of a King, Bach Ave Maria, and other selections. Frank T. Shepard wins a slander suit for 10000 against Richard P. Scaine Jr. in Belleville court. W H K Davey defended Scaine amid recall links as jurors hear about alleged frame up at Daly house. Mayor Waters, Commissioner Mathes and John Travers plan three co suits. witnesses testify to Shepard’s engineering standing.
The foray meeting elected John Bauchmeyer as manager and Julius Bruskin as assistant manager of the basketball team. Miss Mac Dougall proposed two hats for the girls team and new blazers were procured. Faculty appointed a committee including Miss Bestace, Miss Ghanian, Miss Constance Little, Jennie Law, and Alan Shaw to select a Blankarm with Miss Little as secretary.
The Social Service Bureau announces an ongoing Mitten and Rubber Fund to buy rubbers and mittens for children in poorer town areas. As of now no items purchased. fund total 82.50 dollars has been sent to treasurer Mrs Emil Diebitsch. The fund remains open all winter. teachers will forward information to the Bureau when schools reopen.

James R. Hay of Nutley reports that the Yountakah Country Club will not abandon the current links but will be expanded with a hotel partner in New York. The project includes keeping the golf and water sports, remodeling stables into studios, and a new building at Kingsland Street and River Road with a boat house on Yantacaw Creek.
The Board of Commissioners decided not to demand full payment for May to August water bills, basing settlements on Aut-November meter readings. Engineering staff argued previous bills were accurate. discrepancies arose from underbilling by the old department. A new foreman, paid 1200 dollars, will supervise meters and the distribution system as candidates are reviewed.
William Struthers, eighty three, of Vreeland Avenue, broke his right hip Monday night when he fell part way down the stairs at his home. Doctors Crystell and Whelan attended him. He was removed to St Marys Hospital Passaic in serious condition. Struthers once headed the upholstery and interior decorating department at A. T. Stewart & Co. and later ran his own business. He traveled widely including many trips to Scotland. He lived with his wife and daughter Mrs Charlotte Marr on Vreeland Avenue. a son John Struthers lives on Long Island.
Misa Marguerite Pronk of Church Street wed Fritz A. Gutzschebauch in a ceremony conducted Saturday afternoon by Recorder James in Hamilton.
