Fragmentary report describes a town water issue tied to a Pitometer device and a Saturday effort. It mentions divisions of a subdivision and gates, sewers, and men digging as crews measured distances and observed water flow.
The town splits into six sections for a campaign drive. Two committee members per district lead teams with helpers to aid or work solo. A Monday meeting will train organizers and a rally at the School Auditorium on December will showcase progress under Col Henry G. head.
United States war saving certificate stamps and thrift stamps go on sale at the local Post Office. Certificates issued with owner name and address. Prices 4.12 dollars in December 1917 and January 1918, increasing monthly. Stamps cost 26 cents each and redeem for six dollars after three years. Also notice of a Christmas sale and career fundraiser at Vincent M. E. Church on Friday December 14 hosted by Ladies' Aid with toy and supper offerings.
A letter describes American soldiers in France admired by locals for politeness and bravery. Peasants trade fairly but prices rise. many families have relatives at the front. The writer notes fatigue among French troops, hopes American help ends the war soon, and invites Americans to seek them out in their county.
Classified notice offering repair of a girl’s doll carriage and Baby Steda and furniture, including white enamel work and refinishing, with street address and phone contact.
Health Inspector Ralph W. Hathrough of Town reports eight complaints over an alleged burial without proper permit. Officials Legee Tove Ageney Brierly Newark City Clerk and A A LaRue Ridge Lawn Cemetery superintendent note a filled grave and flowers, stating the body’s vault would not meet state laws.
Arthur Granville Kaizer of 63 Daily Street and the James Van Dyk Co. of New York obtained a Kings Court order in New York State. The order became effective on the first of the month.
Citizens report dwindling coal supplies as winter bites. Town meeting convenes tonight to assess shortages and outline steps to secure fuel for the hardest hit families. Officials plan to evaluate needs and coordinate relief efforts.
In a letter to The Sun John Hawkins writes he did not tell School Trustee John M. Sattler to go to the lower regions when the latter asked for fuel. The exchange appears in the Saturday issue where Sattler asserts his claim.
The Soldiers' Comfort Unit acknowledges donations this week from Mrs. Le Witt one dollar Miss Lillian clippings and Me W G effort as it plans to raise a fund for relief activities.
