The Field Club hosts an all Nutley open tennis tournament for singles and doubles from September 6 to 20. Entry fees are fifty cents, with a silver cup for the singles winner and medals for runners up. finals at the Field Club with balls supplied.
Two liquor license holders won back their licenses fees with refunds after requests at the Board of Commissioners meeting. R G Schaaf received a full 300. Sam Vignatori was refunded 270 after an Interborough Cigar Company claim. Albert Weischedel’s exit prompted staffing changes on the Board of Assessors.
Police court notes report multiple cases including a man charged by Jannarone Contracting Co for trespass on a mens road and arrest of a suspect by Patrolmen Werner and Murren. Mrs Clara Bjornberg reports peaches stolen near East Avenue. Fifteen two by four timbers allegedly stolen from Emil Guddack’s property on Nutley Avenue. A summons for Baward Gibbens for deserting wife and three children. Also mentions automobile mishaps and fires with patrol involvement.
Memorial Parkway Committee treasurer Charles B. Royce returns from vacation to urge prompt July and August pledges to avoid delaying parkway work. The Nutley team trailed early but final scores showed a loss and a win for Nutley, with Hollingsworth and others scoring for Nutley while Verona dominated some strings. The club plans a Cedar Grove camp Sept 1 with a chicken dinner and ice cream, and will open ranges on Tuesdays for the next three weeks.
Nutley Club and Lyceum Juniors prepare for a Labor Day clash at Park Oval in a strong lineup battle. Freeman and Reilly manage the sides with Leo Gorman or Machette for Nutley and Shortman or Donahue for Lyceum. Pete Scaree to bat and Frank Hud zick to catch for Lyceum as Doe Hoot umpiring.
Boonton Red and Gun Club hosts an all day Labor Day trap tournament at Maple Avenue grounds. Open to all, 100 targets in four 25 target events with trophies and cash prizes, $1 per event or $4 for all, shells available on site.
Nutley Lyceum will host the first fall season dance at the clubhouse on Saturday evening September 6. The event kicks off a winter series with decorated hall and music. A committee led by Wallwin Masten will oversee all winter entertainments and officers are to be elected September 8 at 4 30 p m.
Local post office will be closed all day Monday with no deliveries. The entire staff, from superintendent Drake downward, will travel to Philadelphia to attend the national letter carriers convention.
Dozens of goat owners face summons after goats roam the eastern Nutley streets near Washin School and St Mary’s Rectory. Police aim to identify owners and fine violators under town ordinance for animals at large.
Thirteen year old Edward Mortimer Montehyke son of Mr and Mrs Edward Montehyke of 70 Hillside Avenue drowned Sunday at Pompton Lakes while swimming with companions from town. Funeral services were held Tuesday at his grandmother’s home conducted by Rev Harold W Schecnk of Franklin Reformed Church.
The Franklin and Vreeland avenues bakery and building, owned by Mr and Mrs Charles Heilmann, was sold yesterday to Frederick and Gustave Schwling of Wood Haven Long Island. They will run it as Nutley Baking Company and plan extensive alterations to enlarge the business. The Schwling brothers take possession Monday and will hire several men once the plant is enlarged.
In a somber memorial, Troop honors Scout Mor timer Montéhyke describing him as one of its best, ever faithful and cheerful. He started and finished each task with single minded diligence, leaving Troop in a better state for his belonging. Frank Ef. Muni, Scout Master.
Clarence Davis of Centre street reports the safe arrival of Anthony Iselin formerly of Nutley. Iselin enlisted at Fort Thomas Kentucky and was sent overseas last July with the 315th Field Signal Battalion. He served with the Army of?
The shop announces new hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily with staff presence. Owner H. states the change aims to better serve customers and reduce wait times. The notice preserves open access and continuous service during the day.
The Soldiers and Sailors Committee at the Lyceum announces United States Commissioner John A Matthews of Newark will respond to the toast at the event. Congressman J Nelius A McGlennon of the Eighth District is also mentioned as a possible speaker with plans for both extensive arrangements and good music.
Dr Horace Tantum his wife Mrs Tantum and Mr Mrs Arthur Dickinson were at a Park Place restaurant when their Buick was taken last Sunday night. An onlooker says a man and a woman entered the car and drove away. the car was not locked and no trace has been found.
The Lyceum Juniors meet Pop Weber's Vaileburg Tigers at Park Oval this Saturday at 2 p.m. The Newarks are regarded as a strong challenger in the standings.
About sixty veterans and local officials attended a Town Hall session as the American Legion organized its post. Speakers shared Great War experiences and outlined aims while Mayor Chebitech pledged support and funds for a permanent post home. The group elected officers and set plans for rapid membership growth and an upcoming September gathering.
