Postal savings plan heads role for Uncle Sam
H H Thompson leads a post office committee to implement Uncle Sam’s new postal savings bank scheme. The law allows accounts from $1 or 10 cent savings cards with stamps noted for gradual funding, enabling a child to open a government bank account. Drilling from his DC origins, Thompson entered government service in 1901. A new Virginia senator Clade A Swanson, succeeding Joln W. Daniel, is a six term Congress veteran and former Virginia governor elected in 1906 with a background as teacher, store clerk, and lawyer.
