The town commissioners filled most vacancies and re appointments Tuesday night with several new hires and raises. Wiss Floresce Eccles became town clerk stenographer at 3000 per year and Charles Gillmen to grade foreman at 740. New patrolmen Frank McCree and John Somaracki earned 800 each. John Perkins re appointed custodian at 900. James M. Post resumed Police Recorder at 350, a 350 raise. Walter F. Ormsbee and William S. Wallace named secretaries to fire department and fire commissioner at 50 each. Chief and two sergeants received pay increases. hose drivers at 840. Eliot N. Smith authorized to hire a 1000 assistant, with local applicants first. If none suitable, out of town candidate may be chosen. All terms are one year and minutes to be corrected to reflect one year for Simon Blum’s town clerk appointment.

Samuel Hopper dies aged 87 longtime Nutley resident
Funeral services for Samuel Hopper, Nutley's oldest resident, were held Thursday afternoon with Rev. Harold W. Schenck officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Born in New York City on November 24 1828 he moved to Passaic in 1876 and settled in Nutley in 1882. He leaves an estate around 75000 and is survived by a brother, eight nieces and six nephews. He supported Democratic politics and served as County Freeholder and Town Tax Collector.
