Nutley Coal and Supply Company Formed

The Nutley Coal and Supply Company has been formed to carry on the coal and wood business formerly run by Jacob Kirstead Sons at West Nutley station. Mr. Lowrie Dexter serves as general manager, secretary and treasurer. The firm plans to expand into building materials to meet local builder demand and is arranging its initial setup for early operation.

The coming concert at St Pauls Congregational Church is scheduled for Monday evening May 2 1904. The chorus has shown loyalty and enthusiasm in rehearsals and high quality music is planned. Some popular numbers will be repeated and new selections aim to impress. Admission is 35 cents to ensure a large attendance.

At the Avondale Hose House meeting the Exempt Firemen's Association elected delegates to the Englewood state convention on May 18. Chief P. F. Guthrie Abram Blum BR. T. Humphrey John D. Donaldson and Charles Hillyer were chosen as delegates with Wright Sutcliffe Robert Moffitt M. J. Freeman J. H. Van Winkle and Jacob Fitting as alternates. John D. Donaldson was named representative to the relief association.

Arbor Day Exercises Plant Thirty Eight Trees in Nutley Schools

Arbor Day activities filled Nutley public schools with planting ceremonies across grades. Thirty eight trees were dedicated to prominent individuals, the High School tree honoring Tennyson. Patriotic songs and speeches by Principal Ayer and the Rev. O C G Helming accompanied the observance.

Nutley Improvement Society Plans Town Beautification

The Nutley Improvement Society will continue last season's efforts to beautify areas near railroad stations by planting shrubs and flowers. Residents will be urged to maintain attractive lawns, and the Junior Improvement Society will award prizes to children with well kept flower gardens at summer's end.

Fortnightly and Arcanums roll a three game series

The Fortnightly and Royal Ar canum Clubs played a three game series on Tuesday evening with the Arcanums winning all three. Miss Reed posted a 184 on April 14, the season’s top Fortnightly alleys score by a lady. Mr. Lobb expects a shipment of fruit trees from northern New York to Nutley next week for sale several days before moving on. Interested parties may see Mr. Lobb at the Fortnightly Club House any evening next week.
