National Capital dispatch notes Senate swearing in Richard R. Kenney and reports the tariff committee restoring McKinley era lumber rates except for white pine. At 2 30 this morning members of the Fish club heard cries from the inlet by Germania hall. Cornelius Coyle was hanging from a large cake of ice in water to his shoulders. Rescue efforts failed until the cake was reached and Coyle was brought to the Fish club headquarters then to the police. He received an honorable discharge at the station. The club voted thanks for the rescue.
The Gazette's inaugural trip contest remains tight with R. F. Cotter of the Alpha club widening his lead and George Allen edging ahead of Wheeler by more than a hundred votes.
A up country gold bug deposited several hundred dollars in gold coins at a local savings bank. The report notes no gold premium will occur as McKinley is slated to become president in under a month.
A London dispatch reports Mies Beatrice Roessler of New Haven Connecticut married James Gross of Paris yesterday in Folkestone. The ceremony linked the Roessler family to an international union with ties to New Haven and Paris.
Rev. Thomas J. Kelly of New Canaan has accepted an invitation to address the New Canaan Grand Army Post on Thursday evening February 11.
Attorney Joseph A. Gray and his children have fallen ill with what doctors fear may develop into a grip like illness. Local reports describe their condition as serious and awaiting further medical diagnosis.
Thomas F. Kippie was sentenced to death for wife murder by Judge Prentice in the Superior criminal court. The execution is set for July 14 at the state prison in Wethersfield via the electric chair.
The report lists several gravely ill individuals including young George A Shellhoos, Frederick Mead, General D N Couch, and Mr inrank I Jones. Each is described as critically ill with hopes fading and possible imminent death amid a community update on their conditions.

About ninety members and guests celebrated the Fish club anniversary at the club house on Washington street draw. Speeches came from Krom of the Danbury Dispatch. music from a Warbler Hackett band. a German quartet. A shore dinner featured clam chowder, salmon, lobster, crabs and sandwiches. The party ended at 3 a.m. with members rescuing a man adrift on ice near Germania hall.
The Supreme Court granted divorces to Rev. Daniel E. Day of Greenwich for desertion. J Mead of Stamford for adultery with co respondent Tallmadge. George Harrison of Stratford for desertion after 18 years of marriage. and Mrs Hugh O Flaherty of Hartford whose second marriage after a previous divorce for adultery ended in another divorce for desertion and cruelty.
Amusements note Hoyt presents The Merry World at his theatre tonight with fine scenery and costumes. The production recently completed a successful New York engagement and is highly recommended by other cities where it has appeared.
Lincoln J Carter, a young Chicagoan and author of The Fast Mail, writes acts and paints scenery for the melodrama. He also designs the advertising visuals and medical effects, presenting a self created career without spoiling others. Hoyt's Theatre hosts a Friday evening show on February 12.
Louis P. Weil of Zander & Sons New Haven was a guest of Mr. M. Ratchford. The North Center school will repeat its recent entertainment in larger quarters at the Baptist church now secured for the event.
Robert Anderson was fined five dollars and costs after being found intoxicated. Lacking funds, he was jailed to work off the amount.
