NCO Demands Clear Tuley Relief Favor at Budget Hearings

Northwest Community Organization plus Rev. Daniel Holihan accuse the Chicago school system of wavering on a promised Tuley High relief plan. They seek a definite recommendation for a new Humboldt Park high school or a Tuley expansion at the December budget hearings, after a Sept. 9 meeting and a clarifying reply from Robert Church. The group now seeks a face to face with Dr. James F. Redmond to secure support for relief efforts and site options.

West Northwest Side gains in city five year improvements plan

The 1967 1971 capital improvements program lists $64 722 000 for West Northwest Side projects alongside the Crosstown expressway 190 million and city wide street work. It details alley lighting water mains fire stations police HQ and branch libraries with multiple large projects and planned interchanges across Austin Madison and Humboldt Park.

Northwest Lions Candy Day drives exceed past totals

Northwest Lions president Thomas J. Dorsch reports early figures show Candy day cannister collections higher than recent drives by as much as two dollars per cup. He credits Foreman High School Lettermen’s Club for incentive and manpower, aiding Leader Dogs for the Blind and related programs.

Burglary Suspect Foiled by Dropped ID Card

A calling card dropped by an alleged burglar led to the arrest of Ray Gomez of 645 N St Louis. Gomez told police he was not at work Wednesday and denied the burglary. Company records showed he lacked Wednesday work.

New Yellow Cab Garage Planned For NW Area

A 22 000 square foot garage with 35 000 square feet of outdoor parking will be built at 2424 N Pulaski by the Yellow Cab Co during winter and finished by early summer. The project costs about 300 000 dollars and will house about 150 taxis in a one story brick and concrete block building.

Reilly Area Citizens form to curb youth trouble

A new group named the Reilly Area Citizens association formed with the Logan Square Neighborhood association to address assaults and vandalism in the Reilly school area. About 200 residents met with city agency reps and park officials to plan youth programs and community support. Next meeting is Nov 28 at Avondale Park field house at 7 45 p.m. All residents urged to attend.

Woman Shot In Robbery At North Pulaski Tavern

Mrs. Eleanor Fuhr, 45, was shot in the neck during a hold up at a tavern and liquor store on North Pulaski. Three men—Jesse Bolden, Tyrone Byars, and Robert Booker—were arrested and charged with robbery and aggravated battery after a pursuit in a gray 1958 Chevrolet. A fourth man fled. Byars admitted firing the shot. Belmont hospital reported Mrs. Fuhr will recover.

Drag race crash kills two as suspects sought

A drag racing crash on Iowa and Hamlin left Mrs Frances Abbatecola 38 and her mother in law Anna Abbatecola 75 dead. Vincent Abbatecola 41 and daughter Lisa 3 were injured. Calvin Hand 22 and Chuck Woo drum 20 remain jailed on $100000 bonds as Woodrum flees town. Police say alcohol fueled the race and speeding through a stop sign caused the fatal impact.
