Runs Lights Faces Gun Charge

William Rex House 42 of 330 N Austin is charged with running two red lights and lacking a license and with unlawful use of a weapon. He faces court July 19 and is free on bond after police chased him from Division and Hamlin to Pulaski. Officers found a 22 caliber revolver with four unspent cartridges and one fired under the front seat.

Humboldt Ministers Plan Second Open Forum

The Ministers for a Better Humboldt announce a second community forum on July 7 at 8 p.m. at Our Lady of the Angels church in Humboldt. The event, co sponsored by the Duncan North YMCA and director David Sheldon, welcomes all citizens with no set agenda to air views on community needs including recreation and a West Humboldt Park swimming pool.

Epiphany Reads Initiative launches tutoring program

Epiphany starts Operation Get Ahead at Hope Epiphany Lutheran in Iowa Monticello. Under Dun can North YMCA supervision by VISTA worker Al Csiky the program targets third to fifth graders with reading difficulties using one to one tutoring to boost confidence and skills. The first program at Logan Square YMCA aided over 40 slow readers. the second at The Root church has graduated 16 students and the new session aims for at least 10 pupils and 10 tutors.

Lions Kiwanis Offer Camp Trips For Needy Boys

Logan Square Lions and Kiwanis clubs team up to provide two weeks at Camp Duncan YMCA for boys in the Western Armitage Central Belmont area whose families cannot afford it. Scholarships will be offered based on financial need and requests can be made by calling Tony Weslowski Cole Campbell or John Cooper at HU 6 2660 to verify eligibility and arrange attendance.

LSNA Ponders Burned Building Near Palmer Site

Logan Square neighbors and the housing committee planned to ask Alderman Rex Sande for support in demolishing a vacant burned building at 3745 Palmer. The fire occurred in April and owner contact has been difficult, with residents citing safety concerns for 300 Mozart Elementary students nearby.

Boost Physical Exams and Draft Inductions by Area Boards

Local draft boards are ordered to provide 352 men for physical examinations in July, up from 98 in June and 315 in May. July inductions from the boards will total 90, down from 116 in June and 85 in May. The calls by boards follow. The Steimmetz High School alumni reunion will be a picnic at noon Sunday in Schiller woods Irving Park Groves 4 and 5.

Plan Day Long July Fourth Celebration at Mozart Park

Mozart Park hosts a full day of family friendly events on July Fourth. From 10 a.m. to noon midget and junior softball, 1 to 2 30 p.m. family volleyball, 2 30 to 4 p.m. father vs sons softball, 4 to 5 p.m. free throw basketball for all ages, and 5 to 6 p.m. a horseshoe tournament concludes the day.

A community workshop titled No Holds Barred will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Philomena church 4133 Cortland for the Shakespeare police district with the public invited to fire all the questions they want. Area grade schools hold brief graduation ceremonies today with diplomas issued by each principal. At Byford school 56 00 Iowa 54 graduates hear a welcome and cantata A Ballad for Americans. Young school awards 48 diplomas with Miss Casey presenting them. Howe school presents 53 graduates in a musical program. Burbank school 2035 N Mobile performs Ballad for Americans with 52 graduates. Funeral services for Joseph Tanenberg 72 prominent North avenue businessman were held yesterday in the chapel at 1300 Devon. He died Sunday in Gottlieb Memorial hospital Melrose Park and is interred at Westlawn cemetery. Registration Nears End at Camp Duncan Yalo NL

Registrations for two July camp periods at Camp Duncan near Chicago are open for 8 to 12 year old boys. The 387 acre site offers archery boating canoeing overnight sleep outs campfire programs crafts nature lore singing sailing swimming hikes Indian lore and games under skilled counselors.

Board considers Tuley High parking lot and athletic field

Chicago Plan Commission reviewed a school board proposal to acquire Tuley High School land for a parking lot and sports field. The board later approved a George Reininga bid for Austin High School door repairs totaling 41 340 dollars. Edward Paetsch named assistant principal of Lloyd Elementary. a $339.05 payment to Elizabeth Bonikowski for an injury at Tuley High in 1965 was approved.

Men Charged After Attempting To Run Down Officer

Two young men Frederick Wosik and Alfred Carbonaro were charged with aggravated assault after police say they tried to run a police officer down during a West Side chase. A truck believed driven by Wosik rammed a tree after failing a turn, injuring both suspects who were treated and released.

Girl Scout Troop Heads to Washington for Capitol Visit

Seventeen members of Girl Scout Troop 638 from St Simon Peter Lutheran church will ride from Grand Central to Washington for a five day trip. They will meet U S Senator Charles Percy and pose on the Capitol steps with Representative Daniel Rostenkowski. Leader Lorraine David says the trip rewards cookie sales and a rummage sale.
