Reverend Hariiaid Nixon will preach at the Michalek school house next Sunday at 2 30 p m with all invited. Warren Terry of Bass Lake attended a family reunion at Marion Ohio last week and met his old schoolmate Warren G Harding. Mr and Mrs E A White of Chicago Mr and Mrs Clarence Phyl of Chicago and Vernon White of Bloomington Ill visited J D Plotner at their Bass Lake cottage. F P Irmiter was in Chicago attending the funeral of his brother in law August Falk who died Wednesday from Brights disease aged 44. Survivors are his widow and two grown children.
Fern Dye a 22 year old Lomax native died when a Monon Blue Bird mixed train struck his buggy near the Swetz farm last Friday evening. The accident left no witnesses. Fern died instantly as the engine dragged the buggy about 200 feet. Funeral services were held Monday at the San Pierre Evangelical church with interment in the San Pierre cemetery.
North Judson defeated Medaryville 15 to 10 after trailing 7 to 0 through eight innings. The rally began late in the game as Judson’s team staged a comeback to claim the third consecutive win. Ripley visit next Sunday for the season’s third matchup at Enterprise Park Labor Day events tease a day of football and baseball contests.
Miss Myrtle Dahlke of Grand Rapids Michigan visits at the home of Mr and Mrs Frank Dahlke with other relatives and friends joining her.
The Tennessee legislature ratified the Susan B Anthony constitutional amendment securing the required states. After seventy years since the start of the suffrage movement led by Susan B Anthony, the amendment passes Congress on June 4 1919, with final proclamation awaiting Washington.
All residents over 21 or who will be 21 by November 2 are urged to vote and register next Saturday between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. at their precinct. Registration boards include Democrat Wayne Precincts and Railroad Precincts led by Schricker Sinde lar O'Brien Falvey Kelley Short Christensen Rennewang Burns Phillips Malott and Craigmile with Jackson listing Harry Jordan.
After winning suffrage, Democratic women of Star County are urged to register on September 4 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. at their usual voting place. The notice, signed by Mrs. BE. H. Taylor chair and Miss Marie Fletcher secretary, emphasizes voting rights for all eligible women over 21 and calls on neighbors to register.
The county Republican chairman urges women to register on September 4 from 8 AM to 9 PM for the upcoming elections. Banks will be closed on Labor Day. A Ladies Band concert is planned in front of the Isis theatre this Wednesday evening.
The Knox Chamber of Commerce picnic at Bass Lake drew heavy attendance from North Judson with the Ladies Liberty Band and the Knox band providing music. Knox beat North Judson 15 to 9 in a five inning game while the Knox Boy Scouts lost to Winamac. A letter of appreciation from Henry F. Schricker praised community friendship and urged continued cooperation within Starke County.
U S Senator King of Utah will open the democratic campaign in Starke County at the Fairy theatre Knox on Tuesday evening September 7. The event features King, a noted orator and statesman, with other state district and county candidates present. Women are especially invited to attend. The meeting begins promptly at 8 p m.
John Winkowski a longtime resident of this area died last Saturday morning after a long illness aged 87 years 7 months Born in Poland he came to the United States early in life He is survived by his wife 89 years a son Joseph Winkowski of Chicago and a daughter Mrs Louis Miller of North Judson Funeral services were held at the Catholic church with Father Wachendorfer in charge Interment in the local Catholic cemetery Distances relatives from Chicago attended the funeral including Joe Winkowski J Vanoskey Jacob Vanoskey and John Miller families.
Mrs. Ote Underwood and Mrs. Florence McVey attended a county Democratic Women meeting at Knox on Tuesday afternoon and heard district chairman Mrs. Carpenter of Elk Hart speak. The Wayne Township Democratic Women’s Committee includes Mrs. Florence McVey Mrs. Ote Underwood and Mrs. Martin Vanoskey. Wayne Two Republican women committeemen are Mrs. Sherman Carnes and Mrs. J H Watts.
Wayne township and Judson Public Schools announce fall openings. Wayne district teachers include Short Heilman Dunkelberger Taylor Ussher and Newlin with Barkey pupils moved to town. Catholic and Lutheran parochial schools resume Sept 7 and Sept 13 respectively. Christian Mothers gathering hosted by Mrs Pete Malecki.
Labor Day at San Pierre offers a baseball battle royal between Hamlet and Boone Grove next Monday afternoon. A Catholic church chicken dinner is served for 60 cents, with platform dancing all afternoon and evening. Public invited to San Pierre.
The Methodist Church schedules 6:30 Epworth League and 7:30 Evening Preaching with 1b 30 Morning Worship including infant baptism. A Wednesday 7:30 Bible Study and Prayer Service is planned. Miss Martha Hay of Chicago visits Miss Geneva Mathews, inviting all to attend.
All voters must register for the November election. The first registration day is Saturday September 4 at your regular voting place from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Women are to vote in Indiana this year so they too must register on September 4.
Miss Arlene Atherton daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Atherton of North Judson wed Russell Siegfried of Mulberry Ind last Thursday at Ft Wayne. The couple honeymooned at Crooked Lake and will reside near Mulberry. He is an Indiana University graduate and English instructor to be at Purdue. she studied at Indiana University and Delta Zeta member.
The annual Plotner Crissinger reunion was held at Bass Lake on Wednesday with attendees including Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Plotner and C. M. Phillips and family North Judson C. A. Plotner and family Danville Jeff Francis and family Fithian Mr. and Mrs. John Plotner Galion Dr and Mrs Bowser Lima Mr and Mex Richard Plotner Bourbon Mrs. Kathryn Phillips South Bend. An enjoyable time was reported and next year’s reunion will be held in Ohio.
