Memorial Day Observance in North Judson May 30

Memorial Day will be observed in North Judson on Sunday May 30 with a 1 30 pm assembly at the town hall to form a line to the cemetery led by the Ladies Liberty Band. A program at Burchs Hall includes addresses by Atty H C Miller and others with music and decorations for graves.

County officials back Jackson township grade plan amid tax concerns

Two county commissioners H R Koffel and N L Guernsey signed a favorable report on the Jackson township grade project. Fred Kingman refused, calling the plan impractical and costly with poor drainage likely to sustain expenses. Engineers cite 15800 dollars, though locals claim double that. Remonstrances circulate countywide and may go to the circuit court as Kingman claims about 90 percent of taxpayers oppose the project for now.

Distinguished Visitors Discuss Route for Indiana Highway Plan

North Judson hosted state and local officials including Senator Will Brown and Representatives Jay Overmeyer George Hansell W L Wood Schuyler Shilling and others who endorsed a six county route from Warsaw to Hebron. They sent a resolution to Governor Goodrich and the Highway Commission detailing a Warsaw to Hebron path via Argos Culver Bass Lake North Judson LaCrosse Kouts and Hebron with a claim the plan serves more people at lower cost and easier maintenance.

Highway Commission Visits North Judson And Surrounding Route

Director L H Wright and Commissioners Earl Crawford and Archie Campbell of the State Highway Commission toured North Judson during an inspection of the proposed Warsaw to Hebron state highway via Argos Culver Bass Lake North Judson La Crosse. They were guests of Culver Commercial Club and Culver Military Academy where dinner and entertainment were arranged. The committee heard competing route claims and indicated intent to act for the best interests of all parties involved.

Lutheran School Picnic at Bunge's Grove

The annual Lutheran School picnic is set for Sunday June 6 at Bunge's Grove. A song program and refreshments will be provided, with all invited. Dr S F Gaynor a veterinary graduate has started practice in North Judson.

Democratic State Ticket Nominated at Indianapolis Convention

The Democratic state convention in Indianapolis nominated its statewide ticket including Thomas Taggart for U S Senator and Dr. Carleton B. McCulloch for Governor. Slates cover Lieutenant Governor Charles H. Wagner Secretary of State Charles R. Hughes Attorney General George D. Sunkel and other officials. Delegates at large include Thomas R. Marshall and Thomas Taggart with Mrs. Alice Foster McCulloch as alternates and electors at large Julia Landers and Paul V. McNutt among others.

Donchin Clothing Store Robbed Again

For the fourth time in five months the Donchin clothing store was entered last Wednesday night. Thieves opened a front door by cutting a hole and unlocked the safe, stealing over $1,000 in merchandise including 25 suits, suitcases, shoes and about $2 in stamps. No clues have been found. Ben voices demand for action to curb such robberies.

Tuberculosis Hospital Site Sought Near Lake Wawasee

Indiana Grand Lodges of Odd Fellows members plan to file a petition to buy 600 acres of land near Lake Papa keechee and Lake Wawasee in northern Indiana for a tuberculosis hospital. Two hundred acres are submerged. Grand lodge action expected before fall after a Goshen meeting launching the project.

Hamlet Defeats North Judson In Stinging 16 to 4 Contest

North Judson sent a large turnout of rooters to Hamlet but were soundly beaten 16 to 4 in a one sided game. Hamlet demonstrated a solid team effort while North Judson players praised the hospitable treatment and clean play by Hamlet supporters.

Prominent Citizen Morgan Welsh Dies Suddenly at 68

Morgan Welsh a well known Aldine merchant and county pioneer died suddenly Saturday evening after a car accident near North Judson. Born April 24 1852 in Wayne Township Starke County he owned a general store in Aldine since 1888 served as postmaster and Erie Railroad agent. He is survived by his mother four children two sisters and eight brothers with four grandchildren and many friends. Funeral services were held at Round Lake Cemetery.

Damages Awarded in Indiana Pipe Line Suit in LaPorte

The Christian Christensen versus Indiana Pipe Line Co case ended after seven weeks in the LaPorte circuit court with a $10,000 damages verdict and $1,784 costs. Costs are to be repaid by Starke county, where the case originated, but may not be charged to the parties. The fund is divided among the jury and court staff. Also noted is a marriage in Jackson township where Frank Kajer and Miss Julia Michalski wed with family assistance and a celebratory gathering at the Michalski home.
