Opportunities Open as War Dept Lifts Age Cert Rule

Ladies Aid Spring Sale and Supper at Church

Charles J. Buchta a longtime Bass Lake and Cass Lake resident dies in Premont Texas at 56 after illness from tuberculosis. He and his wife had moved to Texas for relief last fall returning to Indiana for burial. Survived by wife Louise son Albert Charles and a daughter-in-law. He was a respected craftsman and community figure.

More Soldiers Are Called From Starke County
Starke County sent six more of its sons to war, with a group bound for Columbus Barracks Ohio. A farewell supper was held at Ban's Cafe in Knox Tuesday evening. The list includes Wm. P. Vanasdall Wm. M. Hartsough Geo. Adams Wm. P. Pickel Cnas. Perwitz and Henry Barbknecht. A 19 man quota leaves Saturday for Camp Taylor Kentucky from Knox with travel via N Y C through North Judson. Otto Rozhon Chas Poledna and Frank Steffel are among the group. A farewell reception with banquet at Dan's cafe and an entertainment program at Reiss' Opera House will honor the troops.

Honors Bestowed on Two State Democrats
Roy Deniston of Rochester was elected Democrat chairman for the thirteenth district at a meeting in South Bend. Senator Fred Van Nuys was elected Democratic state chairman in Indianapolis, succeeding Charles A. Greathouse. Death of W F Brabrook former Bass Lake hotel keeper
W F Brabrook a Bass Lake resident who ran a hotel died in Lowell Indiana from uremic poisoning at age 74. He was Civil War veteran of the 18th Massachusetts and member of the G A R.
