Local laborer dies suddenly at gravel pit near town
S J Rairden, 65, a laborer for H M Chapel, fell dead at the Littrel gravel pit shortly after noon last Wednesday. He had a hearty dinner at Replogle’s restaurant, complained of a severe headache, and collapsed minutes later. An inquest by County Coroner Thos Hite found heart failure due to cerebral hemorrhage. Rairden, of Logansport, owned a Medaryville farm and was financially well off. He kept a diary noting daily activities since January 1 and attended church and Sunday School each Sunday. His son-in-law Ernest Grey of Williamsport, the county recorder, was notified and arrived the next morning. his wife and child accompanied the body to Logansport.
