Runaway colt causes close shave for Elmer Mosher
Elmer Mosher hitched a colt to a buggy to break it but the animal bolted tearing down the street. He leaped out at the corner near Pete's barber shop hitting a light pole and spraining a toe. The buggy was badly damaged but repairable.

Truancy Law Extends Compulsory School Age to Sixteen
A new truancy law tied to the vocational education statute extends compulsory schooling to age 16 while allowing quitting at 14 for regular employ ment or lawful gainful service. It requires verified birth or baptism records, a fifth grade credential, an employer statement, and defines occupation. Truant officers will inspect workplaces and may fine neglect. parents or employers face $10 to $50 fines. The act became law on March 14, 1913.

Midnight Fire Destroys Bunnell Padding Shed
A shed at the old Bunnell padding works burned completely Friday night at midnight. The structure held machinery, wrapping paper and several cans of oil, fueling a large blaze visible across town.
