A church baccalaureate service honored the graduating class with reflective speeches and scripture readings. The speaker urged graduates to seek knowledge beyond familiar limits, invoking the Plus Ultra motif and the old sailor tale of pushing beyond perceived borders to find progress.
The town of North Judson gathered Friday afternoon to honor Jacob Keller, praised as a civic friend and benefactor. Masonic lodge and Knights Templar conducted services at the cemetery with a procession led by band members and local citizens. tributes reflected on friendship, community service, and the healing role of remembrance.
A meeting of educators from White, Pulaski, Starke, Laporte and neighboring counties approved the creation of a permanent association. Henry Reid of White County was named temporary chairman, Louis Steinebach of Marshall County secretary, and Henry J. Reed chosen as permanent chairman. Attendees included superintendents from Lake, Laporte, St Joseph, Starke, Whitley and Jasper counties. The gathering, first of its kind, was deemed a success and plans were made to hold the next meeting in Warsaw on September 28.
In a cold rainy day Rochester hosted a boys track meet won by North Judson with 32 points. Norris of Rochester College took top individual honors scoring 32 points while Dillon of Rochester finished second with 21 points as Culver and Rochester judges praised the event staff.
Winamac jurist Judge I J Vurpillat has accepted the Memorial Day address in North Judson this year. His past Memorial speech at Knox was praised as one of the finest in Starke county, and his services are highly sought after.
Obituary notes Jacob Wetter a leading North Judson businessman and longtime North Judson resident. He built enterprises with George Weller and mentored local industry while delivering work and roads improvements. Family ties include the late Lewis Keller of this place.
At the urgent request of the Kester families and creditors, Weringer consents to settle the Gate Gdaeob Wedier estate as administrator. An inventory will be taken within days and public sale of property planned in about two weeks. creditors urged to settle debts promptly to fund the estate. Clarence Phillips will remain as stenographer. Mr Weller’s contracts will be executed and roads built as soon as possible.
Jesse Nochols, who brought Jacob Keer’s remains from Chicago, stated that reports of Mr Keller’s death were erroneous. He investigated and found Jas Keller and a St Louis niece registered at the same hotel as the deceased, while reporters had linked the niece to a different Kehler. Chicago papers later issued corrections.
Perry W. Uncapher of Knox schools is chosen as principal of the Center Township consolidated high, newly constructed by Trustee Geo Rovers.
