A fire at the Mathews building occupied by John Meyers meat market burned the interior and roof, likely from a defective flue. The stock survived, fire was contained with less loss than feared, aided by an early fire bell and quick engine response. loss covered by insurance.
Isaac Thompson, aged 62, died Tuesday at 1 pm after eleven months sick in bed. Born near Royal Center, he lived in Indiana most his life with stints in Kansas Missouri and Wisconsin. He married Martha Critchfield in August 1874 and left twelve children from the first marriage. Funeral service will be at Round Snake with Reverend Wooster presiding.

Marion laundryman M. A. Ham visited town to study locating here. He proposed bringing three families and employing seven workers. He returned to Marion and sent a letter confirming plans to move by May 22 and set up a 70 by 20 foot building east of the bottling works with Jacob Keller already hiring a crew.
J A Hyatte of near Round Lake died at 2 p m. Funeral held yesterday at 1 30 p m twelve miles east of here by Reverend Koester from the U B church. He leaves a wife and six children. Parson Hicks predicts a weather pattern next week centered on the 12th to 14th with west to east disturbances bringing thunder and rain. A cooler shift follows as barometers rise and winds shift, then a second storm period around the 16th to 20th with rising temps and more rain and thunderstorms, including probable earthquakes.
