Democrats Name Ticket For Clerk Starke Circuit Court
The Democrat county convention at Knox named candidates for eight offices including John G. Marks of California township for Clerk, Henry Luken of Railroad for Treasurer, Edwin W. Matthews for Recorder, George E. Pettis for Sheriff, Thomas C. Hite for Coroner, Charles A. Good for Surveyor, Henry Rogers for Assessor, Oliver Swanson for Commissioner District 3, and Peter Mosher for Commissioner District 2. Matthews won Recorder on the third ballot. Swanson and Mosher were named by acclamation. The eight County Council members were chosen by acclamation.

Governor Ralston approved a contract with fifteen landowners for 1567 acres near Putnamville Indiana at 57000 dollars. The site includes Vandalia and Monon rail rights of way and premium Mitchell stone with strong agricultural potential. It stood out over about sixty sites for central location and facilities.
