North Judson Public Schools to close a successful year with a commencement in Burch's Hall on Friday May 10. The graduating class totals nineteen, the largest in school history, including ten girls and nine boys. Alumni events and a track and field meet are planned around Alumni Day May 11.
A Purdue exhibition car will visit Starke County May 7 to 9 under the New York Central railroad initiative. The car offers lectures on soils crops livestock dairying and more with no admission fee. Stops include Hamlet Knox North Judson and San Pierre with Purdue graduates presenting agriculture methods.
Statistics by Dr. J. N. Hurty show 2,188 boys and 1,948 girls born in March in Indiana. White births totaled 2,162 boys and 1,916 girls. colored births 27 boys and 29 girls. Northern counties led birth rate at 18.2 with 1,404 total births. state rate 17.8 per 1000. White county had the highest county rate. Plus notes on August Hruska visiting, a wall map gift to The Reflector, and Starke county progress including rail lines and First State Bank of North Judson.
An earnest effort aims to organize a fitting Memorial Day program in North Judson with a capable speaker and elaborate events. The piece stresses honoring those who sacrificed for the nation, urging younger generations to carry the tribute forward on May 30th to foster peace and brotherhood.
Star City beat North Judson 83 to 16 in a two school track meet held last Thursday at Star City. Our team, with limited practice and many debuts, earned points in 1st place shot put Daugherty and 1st mile by McVey, and thirds by Roney Knachel Boyle Brown and Smith. Harry Watts judged and Clyde Tomlinson timed, about two dozen locals attended, Star City News praised North Judson athletes and rooters as courteous visitors.
The North Judson News Boys secured their third straight victory at Winamac despite a large opponent lead and several first team players. They trailed twice but scored two runs in both the seventh and ninth innings to clinch the win, as Winamac managed only one in the seventh. The Winamac team will visit Enterprise grounds next Sunday for a return game, with a large crowd expected.
Superintendent Guy C. Hanna of the Indiana Boys' School at Plainfield submitted figures showing counties paid 24 564.55 for inmate maintenance from Oct 1 1911 to Apr 1 1912. Sixteen counties shared the cost with Marion leading in both boys sent and total expenditure.
Fred Luken of Hamlet was down Monday evening. Mrs. Howard is visiting Star City and Logansport this week.
Word reaches North Judson that Chick Beetham of Indiana University won a berth on the freshmen baseball squad with two and three base hits and a home run in the tryout. Earl Schuyler at Purdue won first in sprints to join the Purdue track team, while LeRoy Luken, a North Judson graduate, earned a place on the Purdue freshmen baseball team after beating 150 competitors. North Judson pride is boosted by these athletic successes.
Indiana state board of education adopts a resolution to allow agriculture and industrial training within high school curricula while maintaining core subjects. Commissioned high schools may offer three English units two foreign language units two math units and one natural science unit with two additional elective units from history or math or science. Industry training may become a key component in accredited and commissioned high schools, with comparable terms for accreditation. The report notes local campus movements and campaign expense filings, including Samuel Ralston’s gubernatorial expenditures.
