North Judson parishioners clash with Bishop over Father John Kasprzykowski’s transfer to Hammond. Michigan City Catholics rally, threaten to close the church, and press officials including Bishop Aldering and South Chicago’s Polish bishop for reconsideration amid a rising dispute.
A two part satire titled When steel turns to steal depicts a land agent crook and associates in a comic curtain of a decoy steel plant. The cast includes J W Beggs Mrs J W Beggs Jacob Keller E A Short Nat Littrel Dr Fisher and others as Buncoed buyers and spectators. Michael Boyle of Starke county, the oldest resident, died suddenly Tuesday morning at his son Thomas Boyle's home. Born in Ireland about 1850, he lived in Pulaski county for years and well into his 90s remained active. He is survived by three sons and two predeceased. Funeral at the Catholic church and interment at Winamac. Knox Masons attended a chapter meeting Tuesday night.
In Elkhart County an election on the 25th is marked by a strong saloon coalition drafting resolutions opposing closing licensed saloons. They claim closures harm temperance, property values, employment, taxes, and government costs, while criticizing Anti-Saloon league appeals as un American and emotional.
Voters in Starke county will decide next month on an option election driven by the state anti saloon league. A mass meeting with Rev Hicks in Knox on March 20 will organize temperance forces and petitions will seek an April election and funding.
