A telephone dispatch system on the Chicago and Erie division of the Erie railroad proves effective for directing work trains in double tracking. About twenty crews have telephones linked to a pole apparatus for direct orders from the dispatch office, with shiftable units for freight crews if needed. A farmer near Denham set fire to his house on Sunday around 2 p.m. The blaze consumed the home and money he threw into the fire. Promoters plan a fertilizer plant on F. M. Trissal lands at North Judson using marl from the underlying railroad township bed. Coroner F G Eatinger called to Knox to hold an inquest into the death of Leander L Tompkin of Champaign Illinois who collapsed outside the Fitz hotel after a morning walk. He was visiting his son Lassen L Tomkin near Knox. Found among his effects were nearly 1200 dollars in money and jewels. Death was attributed to chronic heart trouble. The body was shipped Sunday to Illinois.

Governor Ralston signed a bill extending the terms of county superintendents, including C. W. Cannon of Starke County, whose official tenure is lengthened by two years. The extension applies to all currently serving superintendents, pushing Cannon’s term to end in 1917.
