People praise the Gloom Buster who calms crepe hanger worries with cheerful wit. His friendly aura and steady cheer lift locals, earning broad goodwill and shared praise across the town.
Boone Grove sailed to a 17 6 win at Enterprise Park last Sunday as Jerry Maloney and Let Short excel for North Judson. The schedule lists upcoming games including Winamac, Bremen, Gary Coons, and Logansport. Closed with two serious auto accidents near Knox and the death of nine year old Frank Byer in a nearby incident.
Frank Korinek and family from Chicago visited Monday. Russell Siegfried of Bloomington stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Thos Atherton. Christensen's grove hosted the A L L picnic on Sunday with ideal weather. A long table of eats was arranged by the women and attendees enjoyed games and contests in a happy, sociable day.
The Town Board last Wednesday appointed P. H. McCormick and C. R. Deardorff to the new consolidated school board, with Township trustee H. W. Mathews completing the trio. McCormick, a long-time school board member, expresses reluctance to serve, while Deardorff, an Erie railroad telegrapher and active poultry association member, brings prior teaching experience. Mathews has six years as trustee and a strong school interest. Additional items note local residents’ travel and visits, with several community members traveling to Chicago, Fort Sheridan, and Michigan, and a newborn son for the Koukalik family.
Joe Dolezal and his wife spent the weekend in Chicago. Edgar Boyle of Chicago visits his parents Mr and Mrs Thos Boyle. Miss Jessie Peterson and Miss Antoinette Rucero of Chicago spent last week at the home of Mr and Mrs John Stech.
Royal Neighbors from North Judson traveled to Knox last Friday where the North Judson degree team assisted two candidates. The Knox lodge, organized a few weeks ago, shows growth. Mrs H F Alberding, from North Judson, helped establish the camp and was elected the first Oracle. Guests were treated to refreshments and enjoyed the evening.
A gigantic double circus titled Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Combined will perform Saturday in South Bend with afternoon and night shows. The merged acts boast a quarter million pounds of elephants and three hours of sensational feats, including a grand arena parade and the largest menagerie yet seen.
Benjamin Franklin Chance a longtime Knox County resident died at his home near Knox on July 18 aged 64 years 2 months and 14 days. Born May 4 1856 in Pike County Indiana he moved to Gibson Illinois as a child and was a faithful Odd Fellows member for 85 years. The funeral was held Wednesday with the Odd Fellows lodge in charge and Rev A H Kenna of Knox M E Church officiating. He is survived by his widow two sons four daughters one sister fourteen grandchildren and many relatives.
Floyd Virgil Lain born November 12 1902 Toto Indiana died July 17 1920 at his Denham Indiana home at age 17 years 8 months 5 days. Survived by father mother three brothers one sister two grandmothers and many relatives. Funeral held at Round Lake church with Rev Tannehill officiating. Out of town relatives listed include R T Rees Huntington Otis Smith and Black Cromwell Rogers Grovertown L G Dunfee Mrs Armin tha Rogers Knox Mrs Chris Hansen and Mrs A W Davis Rye Sarah E Lain Howard Justice John Lain Mr and Mrs John Ford and Mrs Ray Wright North Judson.
Indiana reports $1 905 140 collected for vehicle license fees in the first half of 1920. The state issued 273 100 passenger car licenses and 28 822 truck licenses. Funds go to the state highway commission, marking the first year fees are centralized rather than distributed to counties.
