Tragic North Judson Railroad Death of Gilbert Payne
Gilbert Payne, a longtime C. I. & S. railroad worker from North Judson, was killed Saturday night when a switch engine struck him near the pumping station. The body was dragged about 100 feet and found near the track. coroner's verdict confirms the accident. Payne, born March 20 1870 near San Pierre, left a wife Etta, four children, and a large family. Funeral services were held Monday with many from surrounding towns in attendance.

Parole Refused for McCoy Bank Wrecker in Indiana
Thomas J. McCoy, the Rensselaer bank wrecker serving time at Michigan City for embezzlement, has his parole denied by the board. His perfect record is noted, but release is withheld until the maximum sentence lapses, less good behavior credits. His son reports possible early August release. McCoy works on the prison farm under guard Armstrong. The 38,600 acre farm is advertised for sale to satisfy claims over 85 000. Alfred McCoy deeded the farm to daughter Mattie Reinhart in Queen City Missouri, who mortgaged it to try to save the bank. The ailing McCoy lives with his daughter.
