Local notes report Wheatfield vs North Judson scheduled for next Sunday. Many residents and visitors from Knox Chicago Walkerton Gary and San Pierre were seen in town or traveling to events including dances, excursions, and office visits.
Streator defeated North Judson 5 to 2 before a large crowd. Madsen pitched well as Streator built a 2-0 lead, then added three insurance runs in the sixth. Wheatfield visits next Sunday for a matchup with a strong rival on the local circuit.
G A White, formerly of No Judson and San Pierre, writes from Phoenix Arizona July 6 1909 about life in the orange belt near the mountains. He notes orange groves near Phoenix eight miles from town and land values from 150 to 300 per acre with sugar beets, alfalfa, wheat and gardening as profitable. He mentions a Glendale sugar factory employing about 400, hot dry weather with 115 degree days, irrigation by government water, and ongoing fruit and garden production plus wages higher than Indiana. He invites replies from friends back home.
The town ends five months of tense negotiation as the local glass works project is called off. Some push to close the deal, others demand strict contract terms. a new proposal is already before the town, while the paper refrains from comment.
Bert C. Hay and Miss Minnie Jolitz were married Wednesday evening at 7 at the Lutheran parsonage in this city with Rev. Biester officiating. The ceremony was witnessed by relatives and close friends as the couple embark on a long, happy life together amid hearty congratulations.
W B Shaw arrived from Knox Tuesday evening. Miss Laura Plotner visits relatives in Chicago. Rev Thorpe travels to Mt Ayr tomorrow to preach over Sunday.
Samuel Cassady a 22 year old Chicago tailor staying at the Kaiserhoff hotel drowned at Bass Lake Tuesday around 4 pm. He waded too far, could not swim, and sank in about one foot of water. Isidor Matenky, who swam, helped search but failed to reach him. Cassady was single and survived by his mother two sisters and two brothers. Coroner Fisher issued a verdict.
The Indiana Department of Agriculture reports corn at 4,913,000 acres, up eight percent from 1908. On July 1 corn condition is 98, wheat harvest condition 84, oats 71. Wheat and oats share national crop percentages, with wheat at eight percent of U.S. total and oats at 5.6 percent.

A. Barnhart in Washington. It notes he answers every letter.
