Desperate Man Captured Near Wilder After Assault
A naked man believed to be a wild intruder roamed near Wilder and attacked Anna Peterson at the Johnson lumber camp. She escaped, pursued by her 14 year old son, with help from Deardorff and local police who tracked and detained the suspect, Tom Shepherd, from Kankakee. Shepherd claimed owed money and listed relatives in North Judson. Deardorff has earned a growing reputation as a detective in Laporte County.

Aged Woman Susan Lain Dies After Long Illness
Susan Lain aged 89 years 20 days died Saturday at 4 30 at her daughter Mrs Wm Short’s home after ten years of decline. Widow of Aaron Lain married 1844, she lived in North Judson since 1854. Saloons run by Joe Koza and Joe Kolar will end July 29 under ninety day clause. Owen Daly of San Pierre also shuts July 29.
