Pioneer Robert H. Bender Dies at 10 Years 3 Months 11 Days

Robert H. Bender, longtime Starke county resident of Knox, died Friday after a yearlong illness. Born March 17, 134, he served as Starke county surveyor, then county auditor, and held Knox town treasurer post. A Democrat and Mason, he married Alvira Morris in 1862 and left three children. Funeral services were held Sunday at his home with Masonic rites.

Ten Inning Game Between Star City and North Judson

Ten innings decided the contest as Star City and North Judson battled to a 7 7 tie after nine innings. Our boys led early but Star City surged to force extra frames, then clinched a run in the tenth to take the win. The Wheatfield game Monday was postponed due to rain and scheduling. Frank Bates of Aldine visited town, while Walter Morgan and his wife with Roy arrived from New York and plan to stay in town. Morgan works a drill press in Chicago.

Distribution of Township Funds in County June Apportions

County Auditor Ransbottom has completed the June distribution sheet allocating township and corporation funds raised by taxation, excluding tuition funds to be distributed in July. Total distribution is $5,642.49 less than June 1908. North Judson was quiet on Monday while residents joined celebrations in Wheatfield Keota English Lake and along the river. Woodmen and Royal Neighbors picnic at Bass Lake. Knox hosted a program despite rain. crowds gathered and organizers kept events pleasant under wet conditions.

Fatal Horse Kick Claims Pulaski Youth

George Roth, 25, died after a horse kicked him in a buggy near a grove opposite the Frank Gilsinger farm while en route to church. Mrs Roth and their child were aboard. medical teams at Star City Pulaski and Logansport removed skull fragments and brain injury. Roth died 27 hours after the accident.

Husband Head of the Family ruled in Indiana case

Judge Hacker of the Bartholomew circuit court holds that no married woman living with her husband can be regarded as householder. The law presumes the husband heads the family in the eyes of the law. Miss Bessie Haskins returns home from Chicago for a visit.

County Option Decisions Delayed by Supreme Court

The state and McPherson ask to delay decisions on the county option law until October as the court reconvenes after summer vacation. The Williams case from Wabash County questions the meaning of “after the passage of this act” and the timing of licenses. Other minor cases from Montgomery County and Noblesville are also before the court.

Rules for the Schools Aim to Cut Railroad Accidents

Governor Marshall state official and the rail commission chief arranged to place ten thousand copies of Red Cross accident prevention rules in Indiana public school buildings.
