The community mourns Frank Konopasek who collapsed after a Sunday ball game, then died Monday evening around 6 o clock. He seemed fine after milk and liquor cramps, but heat and a fire ride to Knox worsened his condition. Umpire Konopasek later died at home as doctors monitored his illness.
Frank J. Konopasek a prominent Knox North Judson saloonkeeper and Republican was burned in a fire that swept seven business buildings. Born May 12, 1867 in Chicago he lived in North Judson Flora English Lake Knox and other towns. He leaves a wife three sons and siblings. Funeral services were held with Eagle lodge guardians and interment at Highland cemetery.
A Sunday night blaze in Knox destroyed seven business buildings in the heart of town after spreading from Dr. H S Stoddard dental parlors. North Judson and local citizens aided with engines, water, and a switch engine as losses were estimated around 25000 with extensive insured damage to merchants including Horner Kreuter Windisch Byers Arnsdorff Lundin and Wetherford.
The 40th annual meeting of the Northern Indiana Editorial Association met in Plymouth with Hon. Jas E McDonald presiding. A welcome address by Mayor Logan and a four hour banquet followed by toast responses marked Thursday. Friday included tours to Julia Work Orphans Home and a Pretty Lake outing before officer elections for next year.
The Plymouth event featured members of the Pencil Pushers Association entertaining a visiting royal figure. Local dignitaries attended as the group showcased its work.
