A full page of local notes includes social visits, new heating work at the Starke County Garage, a county agent change, and a boxing bill. The Isis Theatre advertises the film Auction of Souls to be shown Saturday with private showings noted in larger cities, priced at 25 or 50 cents.
A screening of Auction of Souls at the Isis theater next Saturday features Aurora Mardiganian, who portrays her own Armenian war experiences from 1915. The film follows her life from a Harpout banker’s daughter to captivity, escape, and eventual rescue by the British, aligning with Viscount Bryce’s report on Armenian atrocities.
Joseph Setka died at his country home last Saturday after a short illness from cerebral hemorrhage. Born in Bohemia March 19, 1858, he was 61 years 7 months and 28 days old. Survived by wife Mary, two daughters, and a step-son and step-daughter. Funeral at North Judson Catholic church Tuesday at 4 AM, burial in Catholic cemetery near Lown.

Judge George F. Johnson of Purcell sends a clipping to his mother Mrs J S Johnson in the city. The Purcell Register features a poem urging timely praise for friends and the value of encouragement before life ends. The letter is signed by J A Whitehurst Oklahoma State Council of Defense chairman.
Spelling contests are set across townships for the next two months with a county event in Winamac on March 13. Schools are divided into four sections by grade ranges and high schools. Township contests run Feb 27 to March 6 under township chairmen with county reps selected from each area.
North Judson hosts a big wrestling match Monday night at the Isis theatre. Middleweight champion Billy Schober of Indianapolis faces Servian giant Tony Bokich who recently defeated Kid Ross of Mishawaka. Two falls out of three for a $100 purse with Ed W. Smith of Chicago refereeing. Seats from 75 cents to $1.25. Exhibition begins 8:30 PM.
The Indiana highway commission announced a 3156.5 mile system reaching every county seat and key cities. A map appeared in the Indianapolis Star, showing a Logansport to Michigan City route via Royal Center Thornhope Star City Winamac Beardstown Knox and LaPorte. Maintenance will fall to the state commission with funds from automobile licenses estimated at 2 million dollars in 1920, while counties receive no share. remaining maintenance costs must be raised by general taxation.
In a recent outing LaCrosse faced New Jersey High School hoops action. The visitors edged ahead on decisive runs and sealed the win despite late LaCrosse effort.
The Medaryville High School S basketball team delivered a strong floor show and clutch field goals to help Lone High School secure a victory. The game drew fans to the onion storage building where doors opened at 7 and admission was 15 and 25 cents.

A Montgomery City Missouri letter from Mrs Lily describes the sudden death of Mr Lily and notes their move to Montgomery City was pleasant. She recalls new friends who were kind to Mr Lily and asks about friends in San Pierre while sending regards and hoping to hear from old acquaintances.
Harriet Louisa Hendryx born August 30 1845 in Erie County Pennsylvania died January 10 1920 at her home in San Pierre Indiana aged 74 years 4 months 11 days She moved with her family to Livingston County Illinois as a child first married Richard Eldred in 1863 to this union eight children were born Her husband two daughters and one son preceded her In 1905 she married A G Hendryx leaving five sons Oscar Harry Leonard Jesse and Lewis She was a devout Christian and longtime Methodist member Her family thanks those who aided during illness and death including the minister and church groups The note lists the Eldred children and later mentions the Barnard family move and community events
In Kokomo a wife sues for divorce claiming her husband forced her to perform all housework and provide her own food clothing and other necessities from a weekly salary of six dollars earned in his butcher shop after 27 years of separation and abuse.
The State Department of Public Instruction reports rapid growth in school consolidation across counties since 1900. Data show increases in abandoned and consolidated schools, costs per pupil, transportation, attendance, and teacher preparation, with a conclusion that state schools are about 40 percent consolidated and momentum toward full consolidation remains strong.
The Indiana legislature ratified the federal suffrage law affirming women 21 and over as voters. The women now gain legal voting status and will cast ballots in the forthcoming presidential election. The piece ends with a playful note urging Miss and Mrs. Vater to attend a town hall meeting that evening with their husbands.
