Find Childs Bones Unearthed Near Michigan City
Workers uncover a buried wooden box containing bones from a child about four or five years old along Cool Spring Avenue extension. The box, found during culvert excavation, showed lime deterioration and was transported to LaPorte for examination by local doctors and chiropractors who confirmed the remains as a young child.

County Picnic and Field Day At Cranberry Point
The fourth annual county picnic and field day were held at Cranberry Point Bass Lake last Friday with ideal weather. Attendance was lower than last year as farmers remained in harvest fields. Many county businesses closed at 11 for the day. A large basket dinner opened the program and a carnival by Bass Lake Country Club women provided much of the entertainment. Games included horse shoe pitching tug of war volleyball and other events. The Knox band supplied music and vocal and instrumental numbers while dancing continued through the afternoon and evening.

Purdue University alumni former students faculty and citizens pledged almost 1,000,000 for the Memorial Union building. University enrollment rose to 1,762 in 1917-18, with about 1,200 farmers attending the annual winter short course. Auto License Plates Adopt Half Year Rates
Auto license plates for the rest of the year are offered at half the current price though the year is split into seven and five month periods. Title certificates and transfers keep their current prices. This year full plates range from 5 dollars for small cars like Fords to 20 dollars for large cars. Next year price raises of 50 to 100 percent are planned. New plates will be brown and orange.

S C Shilling celebrated twenty two years at The State Exchange Bank August first. He bought the Culver bank in 1901 when capital was $5000.
