The Erie railroad tested its centi pede locomotive in Binghamton New York. Weighing 410 tons with 24 driving wheels eight under the tender the engine pulled 250 coal laden steel battleships totaling 21 000 tons for 40 miles at 15 miles per hour setting a new world and American railroads record. It weighed about 1000 tons more than any previous locomotive could move.
