Winamac defeats North Judson in first track meet
The Winamac and North Judson high schools met last Saturday with Winamac winning 54 to 8. North Judson took most second places as McGinnis and Schuyler led individual performances. A pennant was won by the Winamac five man mile relay team amid strong crowds and good weather.

Verdict for 16000 in Lain v. Chicago & Erie railroad case
The Fulton circuit court awarded Henry Leroy Lain 16000 after a five day trial over injuries he suffered at Huntington in 1900 while employed by the railroad. Lain's right arm and shoulder were crippled when a car set tipped, leading to amputation. The suit was argued by S Bybee Burson and Trissal for Lain and Bryant Johnson Holeman Stephenson and exJudge Wiley for the railroad.

Abner Pursel Civil Engineer and Civil War Veteran
Abner L Pursel born March 1839 in Brookville died recently after an eventful life. He served in the California Volunteers from 1861 to 1864, later married Mary J Woods in Cincinnati and settled in Starke County Indiana. He held roles as a civil engineer, county surveyor elected 1884, and public school teacher for eight years. He leaves one surviving child Abner W Pursel. Funeral services were held at home with Reverend Thorpe. burial in the new cemetery.
