A fire alarm at Charlemagne Apartments Browns Lane Ross Friday at 8 a.m. turned out to be steam from a broken hot water line in the basement. Berkeley Hills Perrysville and Laurel Gardens firefighters responded. Chief John C Haschke said there was no damage. Firemen used squeegees to push water toward drains leaving about an inch on the basement floor.
