McKnight Road Eats Grow Into a Long Food Corridor

Ross Township's McKnight Road evolved from a minimal corridor with few eateries into a dense dining artery. Now hosting more than 30 restaurants and snack shops, the east to west stretch features McDonald’s, Red Lobster, Red Lobster Inn, Pappan’s, Roy Rogers, and many others, with new outlets planned.

Ross CSC to rule on Zotter appeal today

The Ross Township Civil Commission may issue a ruling today on Patrolman Frank Zotter’s appeal. He had a two week suspension last February after it was disclosed he investigated Ross Manager Richard V. Robinson. The CSC held a June 14 hearing and had 15 days to decide.

Advertising deadlines shifted for July 6 issue

Advertising deadlines for the July 6 North Htde News Record were changed due to the Fourth of July holiday. New deadlines are Retail by Thursday June 90 noon, Classified display by Friday July 1 noon, Classified set solids by Friday July 1 4 pm. No ads accepted Tuesday July 5. News Record office closed July 4.

Parades Fireworks Planned Across Greater North Hills Fourth

Winter Fourth of July weekend events unfold across Avalon Shaler McCandless Bellevue and Avonworth with parades fireworks and local performances. Avalon hosts July 4 activities featuring swimming races at 1 p m a bell dedication at 6 p m a Northgate High School band reading and a dusk fireworks display near Avalon Park. Shaler plans a family day at Kiwanis Park with free fire truck rides a 6 p m parade and music from 1 to 9 p m followed by fireworks at Trev Greybrooke. McCandless holds a July 2 parade ending at St Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Church with hot dogs and a pet show. Bellevue hosts Community Day at Memorial Park from 1 p m with games music and a fireworks finale. Avonworth residents prepare for community events as part of the holiday activities.

Millvale Fire Chief Vecente Considered for County Post

Millvale veteran fireman Vecente, 48, seeks either county fire marshal or deputy marshal role as Allegheny County considers two posts. The vote, possible July 7, follows resignations and ACVFA input. Vecente has long service and training. rival candidate is Harry Apfelthaler.

Hampton Two. Liz Kapp Escapes Moonies Kidnapping Tale

Elizabeth Kapp, 18, of Hampton Township, left a Moonie group after months apart, recounting how she was recruited in February. Her sister Connie later joined the Moonies to help others escape. Liz, a Hampton High graduate, planned college after returning home, describing a park encounter that led to the workshop and days of indoctrination.

Northgate approves seven mill tax increase

The Northgate School Board voted at a special meeting to raise the real estate tax levy to 57 per thousand for Bellevue and Avalon residents to fund a 5.0877 million dollar budget, up 5.5 percent. The plan to close Jackson and Grant elementary schools was tabled for next year. One full time teacher was laid off along with two retiring staff not replaced, three full teachers cut to half time, and a part time teacher laid off.
