North Hills teachers reach noneconomic contract agreement

North Hills School District and the North Hills Education Association reached a full noneconomic agreement after marathon talks that ran into early Saturday. The two sides will continue addressing economic issues with a final deal expected in late July before the fall opening.

North Allegheny Hires Barbara Hasson First Woman High School Principal

Barbara Hasson, former Babcock Schools counselor, was named high school principal by the North Allegheny School Board becoming the suburb’s second female campus leader. She will earn 17245 dollars and will return to a supervisory role when Wiens Barber resumes post. Hasson holds a PhD pursuit at Pitt and plans to complete this year. The district also will seek female applicants for Franklin Elementary principal and Elizabeth Evans moves to Mount Lebanon High next January. NOW criticized NA for female administrator shortages.

Lang to Face Grand Jury Over Manchester Fire

Lang Andrew A Jr 28 mayor of Emsworth was bound over for a grand jury hearing Monday on arson and recklessly endangering others charges. He is accused of setting fire May 23 to a two story rental at 1429 Nixon St. Manchester. Police testified to hearing an explosion and chasing Lang who was caught in a doorway. Damages were about 7000 dollars. Lang released on 3000 dollar bond awaiting grand jury May 28.

Free Concert Set for Ross Park This Thursday

Ohio Township expands police force to three full time

Township Manager Joseph J. Start announced that Ohio Township will raise its police staff to three full-time officers starting July 1. The new member is Larry Beer, moving from half-time duties with the police and road crew, to join Lt Brian Kording and Patrolman William Blakely, both already on the force.

Kress Brothers rezoning request denied by Hampton supervisors

Hampton supervisors voted 5 to 0 to reject Kress Brothers bid to convert their Route 8 Bardonner Road property from public to commercial use. The firm must remove stored materials and cease operations by July 12. planning commission had already opposed the change.

Avalon Centennial Week celebrates 100 years in Avalon Borough

The borough marks its centennial with a week of events from June 26 to July 4 featuring a Pirates vs Cubs game at Three Rivers Stadium, a 6 p.m. bus ride, youth batboy and first ball, cake and scoreboard gift, opening ceremonies with Mayor Ditmore, music by the Merrymen Trio, a Centennial Queen crowning, beard contest, parades, carnivals, dances, a puppet show, sports contests, street fairs, and a grand fireworks display. Concerts by multiple choirs, a Skydivers show, and stage performances fill the schedule across California Avenue, the School Grounds, and Avalon Park.

Woods to vote on TAP pact at special meeting

Bradford Woods Borough Council schedules 7:30 p.m. special meeting at the fire hall to vote on the Tri Area Police pact with Pine and Marshall townships. The merged force formed Oct 14 1969 expires end of June. townships have already approved a new agreement.

The News Record will publish on Monday June 30 with distribution on Tuesday July 1 due to the July 4 holiday. News copy is due by Thursday June 26. Display and classified deadlines are set for noon Thursday and 4 p.m. Friday June 27 respectively.
