West View rejects bids on Schwitter Mansion again

West View Borough Council in a special session rejected bids for the Schwitter Mansion property, citing bid plans not meeting specifications. Molnar offered 85000 for the lot, while Feits Mall bid 57000. The council will readvertise after consulting Kendree and Shepherd planning consultants.

Car hits cruiser on Butler Street in Etna

James M. Hardesty Jr., 21, of Brentwood, drove off the Etna Bypass, flipped, then struck a police cruiser on Butler Street. Police officers Gregory Hroskey, 32, and Robert A. Sheets, 34, were examined at St. Margaret Memorial Hospital, their injuries ruled non serious. Hardesty was not hurt.

Christmas Eve car crash triggers city blackout

William Brodmerkl, 29, of 311 Meadow Road Shaler. his car struck a pole in the 500 block of Loose Road at 7 08 on Christmas Eve. The crash caused a power failure on McKnight Road and parts of Ross Shaler and West View. Brodmerkl treated at Allegheny General Hospital for hip and chest injuries. Italy's last merchant to close for the holiday in North Hills Village lock up at 7 p.m. North Hills Theater remained on a separate line and was not affected. Power restored at 7 41 p.m.

Kilbuck approves 1971 budget cutting fire tax by quarter mill

Kilbuck supervisors approve a 1971 budget cutting the fire levy by a quarter mill to 14s mills and setting the general fund rate at 9 mills. The fire company would receive about $9,041, about $500 more than last year, while overall spending totals $48,550 and the township ends with a small surplus. The plan keeps police and highway allocations and notes tax assessments rose 27.2 percent to $3,360,683 with total budgeted receipts around $56,492 in revenue plus $31,811 in nonrevenue receipts.
