McCandless Township officials approved a zoning change for a 31 acre triangle at McKnight Road and Babcock Boulevard to permit a large shopping center. Only one vote opposed, by Wilbert F. Krueger. Ward 11 member Marion M. Keenan was ill and absent. Landowners include L. J. and Anna Schulties, Millwood Land Co., E. L. and Rose Root, and O. F. Bragdon. Attorneys for Millwood Land Co. and Bragdon had withdrawn a prior petition, then reapplied later amid lengthy hearings.

Appleton to Join McCandless Zoning Board
William M. Appleton of Ridge Road Ingomar was named to a three year term on the McCandless Township Zoning Board of Adjustment. The appointment runs to December 41 1964 and Appleton will be sworn in at the board’s reorganizational meeting Tuesday. He recently was named president of National Handicapped Industries Pittsburgh, an organization he founded in 1948. Appleton attended Allegheny High School and worked in the newspaper field.

Franklin Township board fills unexpired term of William Ford by appointing James Shepard of 2290 Reis Run Road. Shepard, who has not held public office, took oath at a special meeting. Ford resigned December 1 citing difficulty attending meetings. Two other board vacancies filled. regular reorganization set for next week at Frank in Park Fire Hall.
