Charlie the tropical peacock moved into an 8 by 8 foot insulated penthouse on McCutcheon Road last week. Friends on Brant Avenue and McCutcheon Road funded materials and painting to build the house after his previous keeper wintered him in a garage. Neighbors including Roy and Martha Gibson along with the William Wrenshall family supplied labor and care to keep Charlie from a zoo. Charlie sheds his blue and green plumage each fall, regrows it to about six feet, and eats a gourmet mix of ground meat bread seed and turnip greens while his human circle clings to him through Christmas.

State House split over 87 million county aid bill passage
The Greater North Hills lawmakers backed the 109 to 87 passage while Sen Edward M Early joined three fellow Democrats in voting against the measure. The bill totals 87 million dollars with 96 million for Allegheny County and half to Johns Kane Hospital. It also increases legislator expense accounts by 2,500. Early called the expense boost blackmail and opposed the bill in its earlier form. House members Helen Gillette, Tarry Menhorn Jr, Rob Ravenstahl, Fred Trello, Richard Cessar, and James Kelly voted for the bill. Menhorn was the sole representative to switch from the House defeat.

Shaler commissioners set the 1976 general government budget at 1,876,613 with a 75 mill real estate tax identical to five years prior.
