Nareran Gregoire, son of Nicols Gregoire from Ste. Marguerite de Blairfinche, Chambly, born 1914, rose from modest upbringing to political activist and militia captain. He aided Lacadie patriots, helped resist British rule, commanded troops at Napierville and Lacolle, and died heroically after being shot at the 6th or 7th November during fighting for Canadian liberty.
In June 1788 a list of seventeen Quebec prisoners was presented to Colonel Simpson from Coteau du Lac. They urged Lord Durham to grant amnesty, asserting they rebelled only against colonial misgovernment and not against the British Crown. The letter stresses desire for justice, restraint of government power, and hope for a peaceful return to civil order while seeking clemency for the rest of the imprisoned.
