Two distinct shocks struck Norfolk just after 2 PM provoking strong movement and alarms across offices in the Columbia and Haddington buildings. No damage reported though furniture and lights rocked, a professor and elevator operator recount vivid experiences as residents spilled into streets.

Enormous crowds packed Gravesend as Howard Mann surged to win the Brooklyn Handicap on a mud drenched track. The field included Handspring, The Swain, Lake Shore, and Volley with times near 2.09 and fierce late stretch driving. Mann led by a length at the finish as Lake Shore and Volley challenged. crowd energy rode the entire race.
At the Tennessee Centennial exposition a night program drew large crowds including bank clerks and visitors from multiple states. Governor Frissell of North Carolina and Lieutenant Governor A of South Carolina attended with state troops and visiting dignitaries set for a grand parade and related events.
Walter C. Smith, engineer in charge of the Port Norfolk railroad project, arrived with companions C L Price and Ward D Grockenborough. While swimming near Craney Island they were swept by a current and Smith drowned. His body was recovered after a search the morning after the incident.
Lima reports on a U S government effort to secure the release of a sailor named Ramsey imprisoned for three months on charges tied to alleged unrest. Galveston sources note Ramsey's arrest and calls for action against charges and alleged plots involving Francisco Melina and a supposed armed incident in Brunswick.
